Have you been to see a Podiatrist?  S/he can sort out your nail without having to remove it.

No i havent as yet. I have had two courses of antibiotics from the doctors and nothing has worked to stop the infection so i could self care the toe. I went to see my doctor again wednesday who has referred me for surgery, she also told me if the pain keeps on to go to A and E which i did at the weekend and they have told me to go to a walk in clinic ASAP as all they could do was clean up the growth and infection a little bit. But i want to know whether i can realy just call the walk in centre and make a booking to get it sorted or not? The nurse at A and E specified i would only need half the nail removing because its digging in that far and they would have to drain the infection properly and a walk in centre near me would do it but as my doctor told me A and E would sort my toe out and they didnt i dont want to turn up at the walk in centre and be in the same position i am today!!

I have been putting up with an ingrowing toenail and I finally went to a podiatrist privately. I am thrilled to bits with the result. My mother had the same problem and went to see a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who decided to take the nail off. It then grew again which it should not have done, so she went for surgery a second time. The nail grew again! She then went to a podiatrist and never looked back. Personally I would now always try a podiatrist first for advice.
