Inguinal hernia?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and have a query.  I am a 33-year-old male with general good health who has been having a number of symptoms for the past two months, and wondered whether they are due to an inguinal hernia:

1) Changed bowel habits - from it being easy to go three times a day to going once/twice a day and it being slow/difficult to go;

2) Nausea and bloating after eating and when I have a full bladder/bowel.  It wakes me in the night and when I go I feel better but still uncomfortable in bed;

3) Pressure/heavy feeling in my lower abdomen which is worse when I sit or put pressure on my belt line.  After sitting for longer periods it leaves me feeling tender and with redness in the area;

4) Pressure in my perineum which gets worse when I sit for long periods and gives me a pain in my coccyx from time to time;

5) A dull pain in my scrotum which runs up into my groin and makes urination difficult when I am standing.  Sitting on the toilet is far easier and I get relief from lying on a hard floor - usually on my back with my legs bent.

Could it be I have an inguinal hernia?

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

    I have an inguinal hernia and if you had one you would feel it bulge. Mine started at the size of a pea and is now a big flat bulge. When it was smaller it was incredibly painful, now it's bigger when it pops out it feels bruised in my lower groin.

    I also have ibs and gerd. Your other symptoms sound like that rather than a hernia symptom.

    Best advice is to visit your doc and get him to check it out. It's really easily treated - though they can never find mine when they need to as it doesn't perform on cue any more!

    If you have ibs or gerd,they can be treated too.

      Thanks stella19032.

      Does your hernia cause problems when digesting food and going to the toilet?  What effect does it have on your quality of life?

      Hi David, not as such. When it's playing up it can cause lower abdominal pain, but doesn't cause problems with the loo.

      When it was first present ( I've had mine for over 4 years) it was incredibly painful at times. I remember once standing in the supermarket and a wave of pain came over me so strong I nearly passed out. I couldn't walk or anything. Really scary. Now it just feels badly bruised, apparently the bigger they are the less painful they are.

      It's only painful if it pops through, so if I lift heavy things for any length of time I know it will come out. That's when I get the bruised sensation.

    Ibs causes trouble digesting food and going to the loo. That's far more likely.

    Do you have a lump or bulge at the side of your groin? Is that how you experience your hernia?

      No lump, just bloating and sensitivity in my lower abdomen, and it feels like the bloating is squeezing my rectum as going to the loo is hard at the moment.  I can go after I have been lyng down for a while. Weird.

    Hi David

    My pain started as a pain on my pubic bone. I ignored it for weeks, I also noted a pressure in my groin and a dull ache low down.  Bloated stomach too. But suffering from adhesions and having had quite a lot of surgery, again I chose to ignore as there apparently they had done all they could to sort those out.

    I then started to vomit and feel like c##p, ended up in a&e. Long story short, had a 4cm hernia sorted out last Dec. I have only just started to feel and get back to normal. Just wondering if anyone else also had a struggle getting over this op?

    Hope you get sorted. Ask for an ultrasound David.
