Inguinal hernia. After 2 years the pain has returned , getting a pulling/burning sensation

I was fine for 18 months after a Inguinal hernia operation. However a burning/pulling sensation has appeared in the area from certain movements. The pain stays at about a 2/10 but can rise to 9/10.

The pulling/ burning is now towards the groin and top left of the leg, it can hurt from various movements.

I saw my consultant again and he just fobbed me off with tablets and rest. 2 months down the road and it has improved, but not to level I would expect , as at one point I was pain free.

Any advice would be appreciated on people having the same experience, exercises to do etc.

I can actually run without much pain , but then the other day walking was painful. I try and stretch the area ( as my consultant states its the breaking up of more scare tissue , however again this never seems to improve .

Hi Richard, reading this is exactly the same problem I have been having for over 2 years, I have now been to many doctors had injections into the groin, tried all kinds of tablets and been to the pain clinic and scans, but none of this has helped, the doctors are now talking about going back in and removing the mesh, I do hope this has helped you I am completely fed up as I also feel I am going round in circles.

When you saw the consultant, did he examine you and give you an ultrasound?

Just out of interest, what country are you in?

No....I believe the consultant just thought I had overstretched the area, inflamed a nerve where the mesh was and that it would all settle down ........

I am going to leave it for another month....trying to free the area up , if that does not work I will going back to the consultant.

I will request ultra sound ...........unfortunately I am in Asia and paying for the treatment privately out of my own pocket ......

I am contemplating leaving until I return to the uk early next year

I would suggest seeing another surgeon and asking to be examined. Look into a recommended surgeon. The surgeon you saw doesn't sound professional at all and if you go back to see him again, he will probably fob you off again. Surgeons who don't care about aftercare are not good ones to see.

Go see the surgeon who did the surgery. Could be a lot of different things from minor to serious.

Thanks for that .....I am going to leave for another month, as it has improved by about 30% over the last month.........he consultant just said light exercise like walking ..which I have started to do everyday

I thought I would update as any information that is giveb maybe be helpful to somebody else .

Thankfully my issue has resolved itself .......I wanted to stretch the area with pain , to try and free the tightness which was probably causing nerve pain, but could not hit the correct area ...all the time..until

I was leaning over a sink (stomach against the sink) and found it could stretch the area everytime with

a leaning forward motion against the sink and rolling my hips around the sink. After doing this a few time the area freed up to which I raised my Stomach (getting near the actual operation area) and did again...until it was freed up and then raise it again. I started to due this at least 3 times a day and anytime I moved and it felt stiff....went to the sink and freed it up.........2 weeks later I have no pain again.

My theory is at some point I overstretched the area, which caused a pull on scar tissue and aggrevated the nerve. I am not suggesting that you should do this, as every person issue is probably different , but I thought I would share ...my story as you never know it may just help somebody else
