Inguinal hernia found.

My CT scan has shown up a small left inguinal hernia. There is no sign of a bulge but I can feel a dull ache which in the past I have put down to a muscle tweak. I think I will ignore it and not read any more of my notes done when I had bowel cancer surgery. Small mobile gallstones too. Better not to know, as I have discovered after my cancer fright, that I am a worrier!

A lot of people live with hernias and are unaware of their existence as they have no trouble from them.  I wouldn't worry about it as you may be one of them.  However, if your ache gets worse you will need to see about surgery.

Hi again. My incisional hernia is now quite a bulge and the specialist said it would need repair 'later in the year,' which could be quite some time yet. I have a corset which wraps around from just under my sternum to below my navel and it does seem to make things more comfortable and I am not so worried about it. But reading different advice, some say not to wear one, others just when I am active or walking and others to wear it all day! I know everyone is different, but anyone out there with experience of these belts or corsets?

And should I wear the belt all the time for the incisional hernia? When I turn on my side in bed, it flops out, but wear it continuously? The Dr just says to wear it, 'if you want to.' It's hard to find satisfactory advice. sad

The latest advice is no, don't wear it at night. It is mainly for support when standing etc. but if you do want to wear it at night, don't have it very tight. Which is some help, but not much. Up to me it seems! Be sensible.....

Hi Fred. Thanks for asking. Nothing really has happened. It it classed as routine and the appt at hospital is now about 3 months away. There is a 20 week wait all told. Then another long wait if they decide to operate, which the the specialist I saw privately said they probably will. I can't get the op done privately as I stopped my insurance when the premiums started to skyrocket as I got older. Pity really, as that's when you need it most. Years of paying for little use, even 5 years when I was overseas and couldn't use it anyway if I became unwell. So, just wait and wait, as most people have to do I suppose... sad
