Hi Steven sorry to hear your having problems, I don't want to scare you but I've had extreme pain, burning and stabbing in the groin and lower abdomin for ten years now following open hernia repair I have been diagnosed with nerves damage following the surgery obviously cases like mine are quite rare and it maybe just your taking a little longer to heal up. If you had mesh implant you could also be having some mesh issue's if it persists you should properly ask your GP to refer you back to the surgeon

From my experience I would say yes.
I am 12 months down the road and I get the odd sharp pain. I also have hurt the area twice when overexercising or overstretching.....what I believe I have done is pull the scar tissue near the nerve, which has inflamed the nerve . In the past I have let it settle for a couple of days and then gently stretch the area......and it goes away ..
