Inguinal Hernia Repair: Sensations Post-op

Posted , 2 users are following.

I had an inguinal hernia repair about 12 days ago. Today I’ve been having some strange (& a bit worrying) sensations in my abdomen area, well above where my hernia was. When I stand up or walk, It suddenly feels like something is giving way inside me. Then as soon as it appears, it’ll disappear & reappear an hour or so later. Is this normal? It’s making me panic into thinking the op might have failed?

Way to early to worry. If you get to week 6 and still have a lot of pain then something is wrong.

dan is it best to still walk about even though it feels like this when im standing? or do i avoid walking about?

Walking will not damage anything. Keep moving! Super light massage around the incision and ice it. Do not try any physio until at least week 6.

thanks Dan. sorry for asking so

many questions but with its the lack of knowledge & experience that makes it so scary. im having 'giving way' pains on the opposite side for instance & no idea why

Did they use mesh or do a tissue repair?

mesh. i told the surgeon about all the scary things in the press about mesh issues. he understood but reassured me that the mesh he uses has never had any bad reactions in his patients. the pain has reduced to a kind of 'stitch' feeling but X 2. pain on opposite side has gone now. maybe im just expecting too much too soon

OK, I am a mesh victim. Expect all sorts of weird aches and pains for the first 6 weeks. That is normal. If you get to week 6 and are still in a lot of pain then something is wrong! It is a big surgery and most people don't feel great after a week, like they tell you.
