Inguinal hernia, wait treatment

Hi everyone
I was diagnosed with inguinal hernia last week. I still don't have a lump. The doctor put is finger on the inguinal canal and found the hernia.
But I have a lot of pain, sometimes I can't even walk.
From your experience is normal to be on pain on the beginning?
I'm changing job next week and it's not a good idea to tell them, I have a problem and need some weeks off before I start.
From your experience do you think it's possible to postpone operation for 8months to 1 year?
Thank you for your advice.

I was diagnosed with inguinal hernia 2016, yes it's very painful, but when I use my hernia trusses the pain eases a bit. I'm reluctant to get the surgery done?

Hi, you won't always have a 'lump' - my hernia wasn't found till they operated. I had all the painful symptoms and was only getting worse, so they did exploratory surgery. I'd definitely get it repaired... but AVOID having any sort of mesh repair, they cause so many problems later on, I had my op 3 years ago and have been in chronic pain for the last 12 months... currently under hospital to get help.. but they're not even acknowledging that the mesh is the culprit they're trying to say it's muscle damage... I've requested my medical records to take further advice. So please don't have a mesh repair. Good luck.
