Hi all, what side effects, if any, did you notice when you first started taking Sertraline?

Hi Jane, When I started Zoloft (Sertraline) it was back in 2004 and at that time I remember maybe slight headaches for a short period of time and weird dreams. The dreams I remember having for about a month. Otherwise I didn't have the side effects when starting as described on here.I do feel fortunate.

Hi - I get weird dreams as it is, which I don't mind as long as they arent terrifying nightmares.

      Are you still on Sertraline?

Yes. I am working on coming off. Why? I have no idea.  I thought it was about time.  I also had weird dreams before, but I remember these being really strange.

I am currently on 50 mg every 3 days, I did feel better at 50 mg every other. I'm hoping to continue on every 3 days so I can wean off.

I work in my gp's office ain america, and doesn't seem to think there is any issues with the medication.  I was very surprised to hear some of the problems that people experience.

Hi Jane  I started sertraline 11 weeks ago on 50mg and was put up to 100mg after 3 weeks  I then experience diarrhea which lasted 3 weeks   doctor put me back down to 25mg to alleviate symptons and since then I have GRADUALLY gone back up the dosage   I am currently on 75mg a day which I take at night  and so far no more side effects   everyone is different and reacts differently some people do not get any side effects   so hopefully you will be one of those  good luck

Hi Kathy. I will be starting 50mg, need to come off citalopram first. I have heard it can cause diarrhea... hopefully it wasn't too bad or debilitating? Thanks for your message!

Hi Jane, like Jan I had odd dreams for a while, kind of how I imagine it would be to hallucinate off drugs lol. And I also had a strange urge to clamp my jaw together for a good few weeks after I started Sertraline. All that calmed down though eventually. Best of luck, Amy

Hi - I have weird dreams anyway (I currently take citalopram and I will be coming off it and starting sertraline soon). I dont mind mild side effects but dont want anything that is distressing or debilitating -

      Thanks!

Julie,  I also sweat so much more. I always thought it was age related, I'm in my 50's.  I even got my hair cut short.  I hate being warm.

hi jan yes i feel like that have u noticed it since being on sertraline.

I know I increased during my 50's and never associated the Sertraline,  because I didn't think it was related.  Now I'm wondering.  I don't remember when I took 25 mgs. being hot.  But I did increase to 100 mg. over time. Another thing to think about.

Hi Jan & Julie..I'm 60 & had hysterectomy 2 yrs ago...have dreadful sweating & always thought it was age/hysterectomy related. Only in last few weeks since reading posts here have I realised it is probably sertraline related. Mostly face head & hairline..really badly. For this reason alone i'm in process of trying to wean myself off..was on 75..went down to 50 ten days ago..notice no changes yet one way or other but this may change. Jan the sweating is the only side effect I had really but everyone is different

I completely understand.  I don't like the sweating but glad to hear and think it is med related.  I feel like a drenched rat sometimes.

I'm really interested to hear what u say julie about the sweating..could b me writing that. It drips down my face & ends of hair get wet. Always dabbing forehead & neck with tissue which is then covered in makeup! I keep a towel beside me if I'm sitting watching tv in evening & bring a towel to bed.So uncomfortable & embarrassing. And yes it is worse when I'm even least bit anxious. As I say that is the only reason I am trying to reduce dose. I don't really want to come off it either and so far it hasn't helped with the sweating anyway. It's only been 10 days at lower dose so I don't know how long it would b to notice a change (if any). I find that during the day in work it's not so bad but in the morning and especially in the eveningtime it is awful. I wish I had an answer
