Has anyone had the injection into the bone - they are testing to see how strong it is and for infection? The letter says a date for your operation (this weds) I have to ring first to check they have a bed for me and will be in from 11.30 and out at teatime - thats all the info they would give over the phone -anyone had this done?

I have a titanium hip so it's the surrounding Bone I think it's the pelvis and above where the implant sits into the socket, this is why I am trying to find out if anyone has had this done.

Sorry no, I have had diagnostic injections into the hip - but not checking for infection. Mine was pre op. I hope someone can post and help you. Do you have symptoms of infection? How many weeks are you?

      Hi,

      had a h

THR 13 years ago I was 37 then, had a few problems last year loosening of the the hip and a clunking noise some pain . It's on and off and has been for over a year , had lots of scans etc and X-rays etc . Saw surgeon a couple of weeks ago who said it does need replacing plastic has worn away and scan all show it's become loose. Unsure of what procedure I am having on weds. The letter is not clear I have telephoned got no where. Going back to what the surgeon said there is some growth on the hip which is caused by the plastic coming away. He wants to check surrounding bone and for infection to rule this out. Crickey I don't half waffle on!!!! Just wondered if anyone had been through these next tests?

No, you are not waffling on at all, it is important we understand what it is so someone can hopefully help you. I really hope you haven't got an infection, but good that they are checking beforehand. definitely.

Are you having a GA? I did for mine, and hope you are having some kind of GA or spinal. Hoping for you that you don't have an infection and they can easily repair it, I know mine will wear out at some point (although I am only 8 weeks post op) my age means it will be the same for me, I haven't really researched what happens with revised or new hips when they begin to weat out. Do you have your old surgeon or someone new to look after you?

After the tests tomorrow the surgeon will decide when I will have the 2nd THR done - sooner he said if there is infection i.e a few weeks- if no infection then the normal waiting time - which I have no idea how long that is!!!!
