Injections leading to large tummy

my husband who is type 1 has injected into his stomach for so long it has made it stick out and is hard. He is 83 so I dare not say exercise but would anyone know how to remedy this. I may add he is extremely thin everywhere else and I can’t fatten him up.

Dear bianca,
Is there any chance that you could encourage your husband to inject in other areas?
I ask this as there's every chance that your husband has developed what's called lipohypertrophy, which basically means collections of fatty deposits under the surface.
Unfortunately, ma'am, it WILL take a long time for the fatty deposits to be 'reabsorbed'. I know this as I had the very same thing, and it took almost 2 years for the lumps to 'disappear' again. Even now, if I 'search' hard enough, I can still feel lumps deeper inside.
The reason this was 'picked up', in MY CASE, was that I was seeing a gastroenterologist who carried out a physical examination and he didn't like the feel of the lumps. He sent me along for scans and all sorts in case I had tumours [tumors, if you are, in fact, one of my American cousins, or prefer the American spelling] which MAY have been cancerous.
Obviously, communication was taking place between my gastroenterologist and my endocrinologist. My endocrinologist carried out his own investigations (physical examination) and found that the 'lumps' were, in fact, due to my repeatedly injecting in my abdomen and not using other sites.
I'm afraid the only advice my endocrinologist could offer me was to stop injecting in my abdomen and "see how it goes". He stated that I could try rubbing in moisturiser [moisturizer] but if it did help it would PROBABLY be more to do with massaging the area than anything the moisturiser would be doing.
Ask your husband to mention his tummy to one of the members of his diabetes support group ... doctor/endocrinologist/diabetes specialist nurse/certified diabetes educator ... to see if they think that it is lipohypertrophy, otherwise the information I'm offering MAY well be useless to you and your husband.
I wish you AND your husband well, ma'am.
Lots of Love and Light.
Mick

P.S. Please don't be offended, or alarmed, at the 'x's'. It's merely a logo, of sorts, that I've used for the last 40-odd years.
