Injury to lower shin / ankle ... Bruising spreading - fibula?!

Hi,

7 days ago I injured my lower shin when a heavy wooden table collapsed smashing into it! Ouch. A bruise soon developed on my lower shin and has spread, but the last few days new bruising has developed on the inside of my ankle, over the ankle bone and also the fleshy part underneath the ankle bone. I did not hit that area of my ankle and concerned as to why the bruising or getting worse rather than better. I have been running around at work all week and during that time it seems bruising worsening.

After making the mistake of googling it I'm concerned about a damaged fibula, but wonder if I'm Overreacting....

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks smile

Sounds like brusing and swelling, if you had done some serious damage, you'd know. But still go see a doctor, as our body's all react differently to injuries. The ankle is a complicated joint as well as the most important.

Hi Katy; I agree that you should have your ankle/shin x-rayed and scanned, as there are Many bones connecting the Tib and Fib to the ankle......anyone of these may have been affected......it may also have torn the muscle/s surrounding this site, which is why an ulta-sound needs to be done, for if Internal Bleeding, more damage can be done......I suggest you have this checked as soon as you can see a dr/clinic......in the meantime, use of cold pack for 10 mins, then remove, and reapply ......also some support bandage/Tubigrip will assist..........good luck......Bron
