Hi Everyone, when I had my INR done about a week ago by the time I got home I had a  haematoma about as big as a birds egg and bruising, it has gradually gone down but left me with a hard  lump on my vein has that happened to anyone else.

Linda.

I've had plenty of blood tets and the only time the bleeding happened to me is when it was done by a learner. Go back to whoever took your blood and show them their handywork or some poor soul might get the same treatment. This should not happen.

I did that when I went for yesterday's the culprit was not on duty but the phlebo I saw was horrified as she had 3 people the day before with the same problem all done by the same person, so I think someone may be talking to her.

I just wonder how long it will take for the lump to go by the end of the day my arm aches.

I am sorry that you experienced this Linda. While it's inevitable that there might be a bit of bruising it shouldn't have come up like that. If you are able I would suggest you take a picture of it and also write to the Manager of the Service and the complaints department. It sounds harsh, but I think it is helpful for the NHS to hear complaints and with luck the person responsible will be retrained and learn from their mistakes (and also refuse to have them take your blood in future - it's c called patient choice!)

I am lucky that we have wonderful phlebotomists in our hospital - I would mention their names as they seldom get praise but it's probably not allowed on the website!

If it doesn't go down and is still painful get someone to look at it.

Thanks GotAbitBetter its good to get some feed back, as I said before when I went for INR yesterday I did mention it she couldn't take any blood from that arm it was still to sore after a week, I volunteer at our hospital and sit on the Point of Care Testing committee so I will bring it up in AOB at the next meeting, like you I can't fault the other phlebotomists they are all great. I left a message for my GP about it and he has asked me to go and see him let you know what he says.

      Thanks again

      Linda.

I got a bruise after hitting my arm on a table.  The bruise lasted a month and yes, I also developed a lump in the middle of the bruise.   The bruise and the lump went away after the month
