Insane lower back pain after colostomy reversal, anyone else gotten this?

I was up and walking great in the hospital, no pain at all upon discharge, and within 24 hours of being home my lower right back gets huge jolts of pain when walking / sitting down / lying down/ doing anything that uses that tiny part of my back.

I'm not sure if not having a hospital bed that I can adjust up and down just immediately broke me, but my usual PT for sciatica to loosen up the nerves is not working, generally I'll rock my knees left to right while lying on my back and can slightly feel the nerves stretch and calm a bit.

When I currently do that, I don't feel nerves, it's like one giant muscle is extremely irritated and stretching is not helping.

I have a post op follow up Monday with my surgeon, but I literally can barely walk without pain killers at this time, wondering if the ER might be a good idea?

since you are in pain you absolutely need to take the pain killers. of course you can't walk without them, you just had major surgery, did you skip any or go off schedule? that could easily change the way you feel.

Unfortunately I'm at a point where I can only lay flat on my back as my entire abdomen has stitches or a drain, and for some reason straightening my back lying down or standing is incredibly painful.

Drain gets pulled Monday, considering maybe recliner until then, when I am able to sleep on my side with a body pillow.

Even with painkillers I can barely skulk along, it's pretty bad 😦

Yep I understood your meaning, there is just so much pain laying down I haven't been able to sleep for 2 days, finally dozed off 1 hour at a time for 4 or 5 hours today 😃

Hi Rommon. I had a lot of back pain after both of my surgeries. After I had the first surgery I was actually tested for kidney infection because I was in so much pain I have still got twinges of pain but by all means if you think there's something wrong, go to the ER and get it checked out. After major surgery like this, I think you should get anything checked out that your worried about or ring your specialist.. I was able to ring the ward that I had been in after I came home, I don't know whether you can do that where you are..

Thanks! I do have a follow up Monday with my surgeon, and if I'm not satisfied the hospital where he did the colostomy reversal is literally across the street.
