Insect bite or just the flu

Hi all,

About 2 weeks ago, my boyfriend started complaining about a bump on the left side of his back. He said he could feel this mass underneath his skin that was itchy. After a day or two of scratching it, he said that it had gone completely numb to the touch, starting from the left of his back, all the way to his chest.

We tried to see if we could squeeze anything out. Some pus came out, followed by blood, so I decided to stop squeezing.

Yesterday he suffered with a throbbing headache all day and today he's coughing, he had body aches and is sweating one minute, then cold the next.

Could this be a bite?

    He went to see a doctor, turned out to be shingles irritated by severe flu.
