Insomia

I have been taking betahistine for about 6 months now but also during this time I can't fall asleep. My primary says I have Chronic Insomia, a long with the loud tennutis I just can't relax. I've tried white noise also. I have tried just about everything nothing works. Yes even Marijuana which helps a little more than anything else. Does anyone know if it's the betahistine causing this? Any ideas on what to do?

I have taken betahistine for over 20 years. Never stopped me sleeping but the bloody tinnitus keeps me awake if I wake during the night. It’s really not good is it?

Hi, I thought the betahistine is suppose to relieve the tinnitus! I just started it a week ago and I haven’t any problem sleeping! How’s your blood pressure? When my bp goes up tinnitus gets louder. I cheated today and had wat too much caffeine and sodium, sure enough tinnitus is louder.

It does suck that’s for sure! My husband has insomnia and it’s horrible for him.

I try to tell him no tv or iPad before he goes to bed but of course doesn’t listen.

Maybe see a sleep Dr. You. Outdoor have sleep apnea? Have you tried any sleeping aids?

i take a low dose of ambien at night but that also is not good for you. What is anymore! Good luck! Chris

They wont give me ambien anymore either. I honestly feel like if I can sleep I would feel better. I'm going to a new primary doctor in a few weeks I'm hoping she will write me a prescription

When did you stop ambien? It is addicting! Hopefully your new Dr can help. I’m so sorry! If I miss a couple hours I feel like a bitchy ole lady! It’s awful! My last stroke the dr wanted me to take Ativan, that is horrible and I would sleep all day if I took 3 like he wanted to keep vertigo away!

The only thing that helps when I get vertigo is zofran under the tongue  as I can’t keep anything down. I go to sleep.

getting back to tinnitus, so betahistine doesn’t help? The other that I fel is different since I started is I have more energy. Anyone find that?

the only other thing that helps my tinnitus is my hearing aids but I still have it! Good luck and keep us posted! Sweet dreams hopefully!

Have you tried taking Ativan (Lorazapan)?  It is effective in calming down the inner ear which then likely will lessen tinnitus.  Ativan will not eliminate tinnitus but in many people it lowers the loudness a few degrees.

Yes I have but they wont give it to me anymore because I've been on it for years. That's why I have to try other things. But it's awful when all u do is toss and turn all night .

I take Valium for when I have severe attacks, calms me and I’m able to sleep.  Also, have you tried Melatonin?

Betahistine does not cause insomnia - I sleep very well even when taking high doses. Betahistine also reduced my tinnitus to background once dose was high enough.
