Insomnia

yet again I'm awake and it's 2 am, this has been going on for weeks, I've tried all the usual remedies and some, but really affecting my health more. I've tried melatonin, sleeping tablets, herbal remedies, I'm constantly shattered and grumpy.. I'd put this down as one of the worst symptoms of fibromyalgia, anyone feel the same?

I fight this too, and mostly in the winter months.  I do take a half a zoplicone (supposedly a non addictive sleeping pill) just before bed if I really need to sleep, but most of the time a gravol will get me back to sleep if I wake up at 2 or 3.  Hope this was some help...

Yes,especially in winter.Maybe it's the lack of sun that triggers

I don't know.I know how exhausting it is and your right it does

affect our health.I've learned to night fight it and to lay in my

recliner with several pillows and watch some favorite shows.

Sometimes I can take a quarter of an ativan,I don't tolerate

most drugs the side effects usually bother me too much.

My rheumatologist recommends magnesium powder before

bed time and it does help some but when insomnia kicks in

nothing really seems to help me sorry to say.But were all different

with having fibro.Hang in there and I hope you find your way to

    sleep smile hugs,Tory

Hi Trisha. Have you been worried more lately about something? I know with me, when I start thinking about my worries or getting negative thoughts, I tend to have more insomnia. But it is a very usual complaint of people with Fibro. I can feel exhausted and drift off to sleep only to awaken minutes later and that's it! Anxiety plays a big role as well with Insomnia I think. I rarely take any meds unless it is really getting out of hand and I have not slept properly for a week. Then the doc told me to take an Endep which is a mild antidepressive. I only take a quarter of a 10 mg pill and it seems to help so that I can drift off and ultimately stay asleep until morning. I just cannot take meds because I am just too sensitive and I get terrible side effects.  I know that that low a dosage is rather silly, but because I rarely take even a nurophen or any meds, it actually works. The rheumatologist prescribed 10 mg Endep years ago for my carpal tunnel and the pain that wakes me up at night. He said that they prescribe it to relax the muscles. I rarely took any however.  Ironically, One prescription can last me for a couple of years since as I said, I only use a quarter of a pill when I get bad insomnia. So it really is finding what works for you personally in these times Trisha. Have you ever tried Endep? I know however that it is very frustrating and sleep is one of the most important aspects of coping for us who suffer from Fibromyalgia. Hoping you get some deeper sleep soon my dear! Maggie xx

Hi,Trisha, like you I get long spells of insomnia recently having 5 nights on the go of my mind thinking about so many things most  of it a load of rubbish. I do take a small dose of amitriptylene but even that is not helping.  So last week I thought enough is enough and downloaded some relaxing sleep mediatation  to listen to when I went to bed.  First night I put my ear plugs in laid on my back and thought right this is going to work and tried to relax.  My mind is was still buzzing  I'm  thinking this is getting on my nerves the person with  the relaxing voice is getting on my nerves I can't cope with this but I saw it through to the end.  My body did relax although not so much my mind.  Tried again the following night FELL ASLEEP while listening and the following 4 nights same thing.  Haven't listened to it for 5 nights but I am definately sleeping much better inbetween the pain that wakes me up through the night when I move but that is normal for me.  I used relaxation about 10 years ago when I started having panic attacks and it helped me so much then.  Give it ago it may help take care and I hope you get some good sleepy nights soon   xxx

Hey Trisha I take a warm bath with lavender Epsom salt and baking soda. If I still have any sore points I place salonpas with lidocaine on them. Then take 2 magnesium pills and that helps me sleep without the pain waking me up. Unfortunately when my mind is racing and I can't sleep because of stress this doesn't help. Stress is the worse thing for us.

Yes I agree, however we can't avoid stress, with fibromyalgia it just seems one thing after another xxxx

Hi Trisha, I can't always but I have started trying to take baths with epsom salts before bed. I also always have a hot water bottle for my back and neck to ease the pains there. Last night I put on my headphones and listened to a youtube video of tibetan bells! It was just to relax but I actually fell asleep...BEFORE MIDNIGHT razz. I'm going to try that again tonight! I've also tried zoplicone, kalms and herbal teas, but I have to say the bells have worked the best so far.

    Good luck xx
