Insomnia

I have been battling insomnia since last October and have never experienced it this bad. I think the sleeplessness started from too much stress . Recently I was put on prednisone for having eustacian tube disorder . I took 40 mg for 2 days then stopped abruptly because of panic attacks. I did not taper off. The night after I slept 6 hours then to this day which is 3 days later I have been awake. I have not slept at all. Could It be possible that my adrenal glands got all messed up and could be causing this sleeplessness because didn't taper off ? And how long till this is out of my system ?? Please help asap!

Dear Brian my ENT consultant suggested that I take Amitryptyline at night which helps in two ways: to manage stress and help with sleeping. I know that it doesn't help everyone with sleeping but it works for me. It is also non addictive so I had no qualms trying it. The worse sympton was a very dry mouth but this has worn off now. I started on 10 mg a day and slowly increased the doseage to 28 mg over a couple of weeks. This is still a very small dose but it has definitely made my tinnitus more manageable as it feeds off of stress and it sedates me so that I sleep better. I take the Amitryptyline at around 9 pm so that I don't feel hung over in the morning. It has been a wonder pill for me so it may be worth you trying it?

This was the third sleepless night, I am miserable and refuse to take sleeping pills. I have to be allergic to something I'm eating . I cut out everything that could be bothering me. All I'm eating is eggs chicken brocolli spinach milk and Greek yogurt and almonds. I know I'm not lactose and tolerant but I did some research and discovered how some unknown food allergies can cause insomnia. I'm starting to hallucinate. Does anybody think this has anything to do with the prednisone because I did not taper off properly? It's odd because I sleep the last day I took the prednisone then the next days until now I haven't slept
