I am one week from stopping amit, and am not sleeping well. I was expecting that, and am working through it, as know it will improve. I remember your last two posts where you were having same problems sleeping when on it. It takes time for this med to work and time to get back to normal when withdrawing. I do not feel you gave this med enough time to work and by coming off it too quickly will mess with your brain and nervous system more. Unfortunately these are not a quick fix, and patience is necessary, give yourself time and read up on how to improve sleep. Changing doses constantly is going to make your symptoms worse.

I can only answer on what I would do, sorry! I personally in your shoes would not go back on it after coming off it a week ago. I find magnesium relaxes me, but then I am very sensitive to everything at the moment. I do not let lack of sleep get to me and adjust my life around it, but then I have been going through this for so long, I have learnt to relax and just go with it until my brain and nervous system adjust. Am going to have a 90 minute massage today as always have a good sleep after. Be patient, speak to your doctor, and read as much as you can about all this.

Had the same problem when I stopped. To break the cycle I took 3.5mg of Zopiclone ( sleeping pill ) for a week and then my body got used to sleeping properly. Was easy to stop taking Zopiclone as well.

    Good luck.

Insomnia is a big problem when you stop amitriptyline. I used Nytol Herbal and Avena Sativa drops. Magnesium supplements can help, also a multi vitamin b supplement. I stopped taking amitriptyline two years ago and still have the odd sleepless night. I hope you feel better soon.
