Insomnia

Ok, I’ve been on Sertraline for over 9 weeks and still struggle to sleep.

Week 1  (25 mg)

Week 2 - 7 (50mg)

Week 7-9 (75mg)

I still have mild anxiety sometimes during the day but I assume I’m trying to adjust to the higher dose.

At night I’m so exhausted but can’t stay asleep longer than a few hours. It’s a little better than it was before but I seriously need sleep.

The doctor has prescribed all types of different sleep aids but none of them work.

Please tell me I’ll sleep again. 😴

Give me hope!!

Try going for a walk in the evening just after dinner.

    Try to tire yourself out.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I take nightly walks with the hubby and still struggle to sleep. Frustrating

I usually listen to water sounds on my phone, or rain or thunder, ocean sounds, and it really helps me to drop off. My therapist told me you can train yourself to sleep again, so what I'm saying is it's not out of your reach. I know it's horrible just now but I'm sure it will settle. It took me a good couple of months to begin to settle down after starting sertraline, my dose was increased to 100mg after 3 weeks.

I hope it settles for you soon.

Thank you for your reply. I will try the  water sounds that you suggested.

I’ll try to keep a positive attitude. 😊

I to struggled to stay asleep. I spent half the night in a sort of almost awake state ..not awake enough to get up and go for a wee which probably would have helped. I also woke up dehydrated in a puddle of sweat. Lovely!! You could try Valerian sleep aid which is fine with Sertraline or phenerghan which is an anti histamine. I got this on prescription and it did work most times and didn't leave me drowsy the next day. I am presuming you have probably tried this. Obviously cut out coffee in the evening and drink loads of water. ( which I'm sure you do)

Incidently when I reached 150mg the sweating has gradually stopped and I am sleeping good. My anxiety has mostly gone. I'm back at work after being off for almost 8 months. Please keep going. You will know when you reach your correct dose. Sertraline has literally saved my life.

Thank you I wish you all the best. I think people give up too soon because of the side effects which for me were really grim. But I got there!!. I think people should post more when they are feeling better because that helped me to keep going. I'm not completely out of the woods yet but am so so much better. Keep on trucking..You will get there xx. Here come the unicorns.

I struggle with sleep as well and I think that aggravates some of the other side effects. Thanks for the tips Hoopz.

I’ve just done an experiment with CBD oil for 2 nights but that hasn’t gone well even though I left over 12 hours in between each. Another day though live and learn. ??

Hi. I haven't got any answer for not sleeping. But just wanted to let you know your not the only one. I have the same. I sleep maybe 3 hours a night, and same thing, not really sleeping in and out of wakeful/sleep state with weird dreaming. I am on sertaline for 3 weeks now 100mg. I tried taking at night to start with, and now take it in the mornings, same thing. I do notice that i take it at 7/8am in the morning, and by 12 midday im washed out and can go to sleep, for about 3 hours, luckily im in the position at the moment to be able to do that. so i have 3 hours sleep during the day and 3 at night, so not to bad. Ive tried not having afternoon nap but would still just sleep 3 hours at night. So no matter what i do, 3 hours in and out of wakeful state is all i get. so don't worry your not alone. I am sure this will pass, so im sticking with it. My doctor did give me diazipan 5mg when i first started on sertaline, which helped me sleep like a baby, but only gave me about a weeks worth, and understandably wont prescribe me more, due to them being addictive. But if you havent had them before, its maybe worth a try just explaining to your doctor that you are totally burned out and if you could even give you a couple, just to at least get one or two nights decent sleep. Its not the answer or a cure, but they did help me, until i ran out of them lol. Anyways that's my 2 cents worth. tick with it, im in the same boat, and im sure it will settle down. Wishing you all the best G.

I got phenerghan from doc to help with sleep. It's anti histamine. It's not bad. Doesn't make you drowsy next day.

Not addictive. Or you could try vallerian sleep aid.

      Good luck.

Ps it does get better in my experience
