Insomnia

Hi ladies. I have been going through a rough couple of weeks not being to sleep well through the night, I do fall asleep right away when I first get into bed, only to wake up an hour or two later. That happens to me all through the night, keep waking up every two hours, sometimes not being able to fall back asleep. I don't know how much longer I can go on like this, I need my sleep. Any suggestions as to what to take for this awful insomnia? Thank you in advance.🙏❤

Hi Maria, I had trouble staying asleep for over a year. I take 10mg of amitripyline for migraine management. It is an old AD , at low doses it is useful for nerve pain and I have read about it being used for insomnia. I sleep pretty well now. I tried liquid melatonin for awhile, but wore off quick. Good luck!

Hello! So far, so good. 5 weeks in on 10 mg. At my worst, I was getting them 3-5 times per month...now I will get 1 around my period. Then a neck, tension type headache here and there. Also, the recovery is not as bad...I would get them and be sick for a week sometimes. I take 3 hrs before bed and have been getting between 5-8 hrs of sleep...I was lucky before to get a couple of hours.

Also, went back on BCP... on day 4 of low dose extended cycle type. I have been dealing with bad vertigo due to the migraines I believe...however, last couple of days, not too bad. Never had migraines like this before peri...hope the BCP does the job. Fingers crossed on that though!

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. Peri has definitely hit us hard. I also get horrible tension headache and ear ringing. my anxiety is sky high. I don't get my periods regularly. if you don't mind me asking which birth control are you taking? I tried one with low dose it didn't help much.

I am on Amethia extended cycle. 91 days. low dose combo ...84 days straight hormones no break...7 day bleed. periods 3-4x per year. Tried mini pill before...no good for me. There are hundreds of different BCP all chemically different. Just a matter of finding what works.

Maria. I'm taking Trazodone. It's an antidepressant, but also helps you sleep. Everyone is different, ask your doctor if Trazodone is a good fit for you.

Hugs, Maria...I am going through the same thing. I thought about my comfy bed while at work today, then felt weepy because I know I wont get a good night's rest.

Im going to try melatonin. My sis in law is a nurse practitioner and she says it works for her.

I heard a tip from a woman who is now 75. She said she has been taking Benadryl at night since she was in her 50s. I tried it myself and boy does it work. I only take about a 1/4 -1/2 of a tablet and I'm out cold in about 15-30 minutes. I am really drowsy when I first wake up but am fully awake after a few sips of coffee.

I have resorted to Benedryl on occasion...but she's been doing that for 20 years??! Is that even safe? I guess so big shes still doing it. It takes me 2 days to shake it off so I don't take it often.

      But whatever works !
