Help, I have had severe insomnia for the last two weeks. I feel like I'm going out of my mind. I sleep maybe 20 minutes and I'm up then sleep an hour at most. This has caused me alot of anxiety I just cant calm myself down enough to be able to go to sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do or take to be able too sleep. I really don't want to be medicated but I'm just not sure anymore. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Hi, I feel your pain, it feels like you are going insane, you sit there watching the clock, every hour that goes by you get more stressed...me, I go through periods of insomnia which start the same as you, I nod off then wake up, then cant get back to sleep, the more I try the worse it gets as the adrenaline kicks in due to the stress, you clock watch and more stressed as the hours tick by.... I try reading, going to a different room, audiobooks, hot bath...but nothing helps, then the next day you worry about if you are going to sleep and that's the only thing you think about, it happens again a second night of no sleep because its taken over your life., then a 3rd night....but belive me, you will sleep in the end a lot of insomnia is temporary, in the end .your body will crash, it's not you, its your mind going into overdrive....I've just got over my 3 day of no sleep routine I go through and I've reset and back to normal sleep for now...just say to yourself ok, I've not slept tonight but I'll sleep tomorrow , remember you cannot die from lack of sleep...yes it makes you feel rubbish...but you will sleep..regards John 😉.

I hope over helped, my insomnia when it comes normally lasts for two weeks, with 3 days of insomnia, then sleep ok, then I get another 3 days of insomnia....then boom, I sleep ok for maybe 6 months then It comes back, you have to learn to laugh at it, easy i know, but you know it's in your head, its the crazy thoughts you have during the day....I'm not going to sleep tonight?..what am I going to do if I dont sleep?....it goes over and over in your mind, then you get home, you are tence thinking about it, then it comes to bedtime, you think I m not going to sleep....you at there, by 1am thr panic sets in....and boom...the mind races....I know how you feel....but you will sleep, it has to happen, your body will give in and you will sleep...remember our type of insomnia is normally temporary, others suffer more, getting random insomnia is normal...I promise you within a few days you will be ok and sleep will return, but you have to learn to relax and take each day.....regards, John x

    Marisa,

What do you do the few hours before you go to sleep? Google "insomnia" with words such as training, treatment, cure.

Try drinking a glass of hot adult formula milk 1 hour before sleep. It might help. If you could drink 2 glasses a day but space it out or you end up going to the toilet middle of the night.

Google how digital devices have blue light which disrupt sleep. Try install apps like twilight to switch your phone to block blue light and see if it helps. You could also try not to look at digital devices 1 to 2 hours before bed. It does disrupt your sleep. You might want to try getting a pair of block blue light glasses and wear it few hours before sleep. It will help.

Soak your feet in a small basin before bed in slightly hot water. It helps too.
