Insomnia and Mirtazapine

Posted , 3 users are following.

Been struggling to sleep on mirtazapine. Tried 7.5, 11.25, 15 and 22.5mg. Seems to wake me up more than anything, feel more anxious after taking off anything. Been taking it around 45 minutes before bed as instructed by my GP.

Also done dizziness during the day. On several other medications mainly IBS and reflux ones, as well as lorazepam PRN.

Anyone else had similar issues sleeping on it??

I was prescribed 15mg for insomnia. I only slept 3 says on 7.5mg and it stopped working and my doctor told me to up to 15mg and that didnt work at all. so now I sleep better but I take magnesium, GABA supplement, and sometimes I add L theanine. Also take calms forte 2 times a week. I take my supplements 1.5 hours before mirtazapine but found once I take the mirtazapine I feel more awake and I gave to wait for at least another 1.5 hrs to fall asleep. i feel it wakes me up also but supplements have helped a lot.

Hello. Mirtazapine is more sedating the lower the dose due to the impact on histamine receptors in the brain. Therefore, if you are taking for insomnia only you should not be increasing the dose but decreasing. The higher doses are more activating, especially 30mg and 45mg. Luckily im able to sleep on 30mg but not everyone is.
