Insomnia on Sertraline?

Posted , 9 users are following.

I've been on 50 mg sert for just over 5 weeks now and I have to say that my mood has improved no end, this is definitely the one for me, there is just one cloud on the horizon . . . I'm having real difficulty sleeping, has anyone else experienced this on Sertraline?

Any suggestions to help with this would be appreciated  ...  my doctor did up the dosage to 100 mg for me to try but my mood deteriorated and I just didn't feel like me anymore.

Thanks, Sue

      hi susan,

Curious to know how you feel now? Also, when did the insomnia subside?

Ive been on 200 mg of sertraline for 2 weeks and started taking it in the am which i think might be helping but i still have to take .5 xanax at night. but now my doc prescribed seroquel which scares me bc its usually for bipolar disorder but can be used at a low dose for sleep disorder. I dont have bipolar, just anxiety/depression. she siad ti take it for 7 days to reset my sleep pattern

. i dont knwo what to do. I think i'd prefer to wait until the sertraline takes effect.

I restarted 50mg Zoloft 5 weeks ago and I have insomnia too. I have been on Zoloft for not quite a year, and the first time I started taking it, I had insomnia for the first couple months, then it went away. I stopped taking my Zoloft cold turkey back in May when I found out I was pregnant. Worst mistake I ever made. The withdraws mixed with the hormones was tortuous. I ended up miscarrying just had a D&C two weeks ago at 11 weeks 5 days pregnant. (Found out at 8 weeks that there wasn't a heartbeat and tried to naturally miscarry. Never happened and I was a mess and started back on my Zoloft).

I have definitely been more aware of the side effects since stopping and restarting Zoloft recently. I take Xanax at bedtime to help me sleep.

I also have started taking it in the morning rather than the evening to see if that will help. I just started that yesterday so we shall see.

I wish you luck. Zoloft has helped me immensely with my anxiety. I regret my descion to stop taking it a few months ago the way I did. Up until then, it had been my miracle medicine. Now I'm just waiting for it to get back in my system fully.

I'm so sorry - what a difficult time you've had, one of our daughters had a similar very difficult time with a miscarriage, you've been very courageous to share your story with us.  I'm pleased you've found that zoloft has helped you, I know it's helping me too, I took mine in the morning for the first time today so I'm hoping that may help.  Wishing you well x

      Hi Tiff,

I'm so sorry for what you've been through. I hope the Zoloft kicks back in soon to help you heal. My situation is similar to yours, in that I'm pregnant and stopped my medication. Well, came right down to the lowest doses X was taking it very inconsistently. I know what you mean about the withdrawals and hormones being horrendous. So I've gone bacon about 4 weeks ago and although feeling better, still desperately waiting for the full relief I know they bring. Do you mind me asking what dose you were or are on? I hope this message finds you a little better today. I think we forget whilst pregnant that we must not only look after the baby, but ourselves too.

I am on 50mg. I think I'm starting to balance out some, but this loss was really difficult.

I wish you luck with your pregnancy!!!

I am hoping to balance out completely and talk to my doctor about the right way to taper off again if we decide to try again.??

I tapered down successfully in my first pregnancy, and stayed on 25mg the whole time i was pregnant with my now 2 year old little boy and had a great pregnancy. Just tried to take a short cut that I really shouldn't have this time. But I know me feeling the way I am now would be harmful for the baby, so I need to take the small risk of being on Zoloft whilst pregnant, and just hope and pray everything turns out just fine again. Is 50mg the dose you've always been on Tiff?

Keep me posted how your going, it's nice chatting. 😊

I originally started off on 25mg about 10 months ago but it didn't seem to help. (I had a miscarriage and my first D&C 6 months before starting any anxiety meds. It was really difficult for me to ask for help)

My doctor had first put me on Celexa, but I was on it for less than a week and it made my anxiety 100 times worse. So he gave me the 25mg Zoloft to start me off. I did that for a couple months but it really didn't seem to be helping. Once he upped it to 50mg, it was only a few weeks before I really started to feel like a different person. I wish I had done some research about tapering off before I concieved this last time. Two miscarriages in two years has been really difficult emotionally. This time much harder and I blame that on my stopping my Zoloft cold turkey the way I did.

      😖

Again I'm really sorry, that would be really hard. I also had a miscarriage in the very early stages of a pregnancy back in 2012, it's hard. Do you think it was the increased anxiety and stress of quitting cold turkey that did it this time? Have you always had anxiety?

      You'll get through this 😊

Hello there. I ambin the same boat as you. During the day I am so calm and mood really stable now but I cannot get to sleep. Once I do sleep.. I sleep. I have been taking diazipam 2 mgs at night but tbh this isn't really working for me. Hope you get a good sleep soon...

Thank you Jay . . . I hope so too, I've taken the tablet first thing this morning today in the hope that it makes a difference,  I'm also on gabapentin for pain relief so I'm hoping that with taking the sert in a morning and the gabapentin on an evening they won't be fighting against each other . . . hope you get a good nights sleep too.

Good morning Jay - I'm so happy this morning, I went off to sleep really, really well and slept the night through - I'm sure changing from evening to morning to take the Sert helped - last evening I just felt naturally tired, I took my normal dose of Gabapentin because it helps my restless legs and just drifted off to sleep without any problems.

Did you get a good night's sleep?

That's great to hear Susan. Long may it last hun. I feel asleep quite quickly too but that's after taking 4mgs of diazipam. Going to gp a week on Monday so will see if I should increase to 75 or stay where I am at 50. Thing is I do feel good well so much better than before sertaline. The anxiety is still there but I'm not as aware of it. X X

That's pretty much a snapshot of where I am Jay - I feel so much better than pre Sertraline and I'm finding ways to deal with the anxiety, which I have to say is much less severe than it was xx
