insomnia with bisoprolol

I,ve been taking Bisoporol 1.25 for 2 months now and am getting bad insomnia, does anybody experience this?   I didn,t sleep very well before, i could get to sleep but couldn,t often stay asleep after 4 hours, now i can,t get to sleep or stay asleep,it is making me feel quite depressed.   I have had a bad attack of SVT admitted to hospital and they put me on this drug, i was getting bad palpitations mostly all day before which i don,t get at the moment but the lack of sleep is draining me.

    Yep, that was me on Bisoporol, spemding the whole day feeling like all I want to do is go to sleep, to find when the time comes it is a very disturbed sleep.

    I didn't realise it was a side effect.   I have been completely off Bisoprolol now for nearly a month and am sleeping great, the best for many years.   I can now jump out of bed feeling energetic rather than taking hours to waken up.

    Depression is a side effect of Beta blockers because they affect a central nervous system and they can cause strange psychological effects.

    Problems with sleeping, quality of sleep and often problems with nightmares are quite common.

    Again, this is why Beta blockers enter into our brain and alter lots of mechanisms.

    These drugs are helping with an origional heart disease, but they can cause other problems.

      Thanks, i always rely on your advice!    i,m in a turmoil because i haven,t got the palpitations but i got this fear of nightime when i have to go to bed, before i would feel sleepy and go off to sleep without any trouble, now i feel wrecked but can,t get to sleep, then i,m back awake 4 hours later.

      It is probably anxiety and fear because of your health issues (we all have that), and then side effects of a drug on top of it.

      I hope you will be better.

    Hi Ann,

    It does the complete opposite to me.  I sleep like a log.  I am also very tired during the day.  The worse part for me is breathing and odd dreams, sometimes horrible nightmares and because I am sleeping so heavily it's really hard to pull out of the dream.  I was given Bisoporol 5 mg for high blood pressure.  As much as sleep I am still tired, very low energy and feeling sad/lethargic I will be talking to my doctor this week.  It also affects my breathing.  Not good. I'd say I have experienced most of the side effects that are listed on the inner insert.

    I wish you luck and hope you find a way to get a good nights sleep.  Maybe different medication?  Good luck.

    My dosage has just been doubled and I have hardly slept for four consecutive nights.

    Could there be a link?
