Intense pain in upper belly

For about 4 hours last night starting at 1 am I had this intense pain in my upper belly below my sternum. It also went stright back into my back. The pain was a combinetion of pressure and stabing. I started to throw up after a while. I could not get comfortable and laying down mabe it worse. Wondering if this could be pancreatitis? Or any other suggestion?

Acid reflux,  Gall Bladder - but for some reason I'm leaning towards Hiatal Hernia - by all means get checked out - but sounds digestive in nature - I do know a few acquaintences who got relief from their hiatal hernia visiting a chiropractor.  But again, check with your doctor - stress will aggrevate all of the above!

Oh you poor thing! Coming from someone who has had pancreatitis since I was 13 and am now 29, unfortunately this does sound like it could be "acute pancreatitis".... The one thing that usually happens is the pain gradually gets worse & can become unbearable very quickly. Also, throwing up can also stimulate the pancreas even more which means more pain!!!

I see its been about a day since you wrote this & I am interested to hear how you are feeling now?

Thanks foe the reply. My stomach has been very sore and bloated since then. The pain went away after about 4 hours so im leaning more towards gallbladder now.
