Intercostal muscle pain 3 weeks

3 weeks ago, I lifted some heavy furniture and I pulled my rib muscles and shoulder on the left side. was in absolute agony, so doctor prescribed naproxen. took it for 5 days but stopped, as I thought it was aggravating asthma. went to docs a couple more times...chest sounded clear (have felt congested and have a productive cough). woke up with really bad indigestion pains, so doc thought it was gastritis caused by naproxen. took omeprazole, but that made the pain round my side so so bad. I've stopped taking them. there's something still not right though.

I'm still breathless on exertion, unless I really cough to clear whatever is at bottom of lungs.

I can't lie on either side at night...too tender to lay on left and muscles really pull if lay on right.

last night I yawned, and the pain in my front, at bottom of rib cage, felt like someone had stuck a knife in me.

I'm still getting funny twinges, which seems to make me kind of take a small succession of quick breaths.

I'm sure my bottom rib on left side feels like it protrudes a bit.

can intercostal muscles really be this painful after 3 weeks? I mean I can move about pain free, but I'm laying down right now and can feel pain going round that side, it feels tender, plus shoulder hurts as well.
