Interested in your feedback on questions for opthamologist

I have an appointment Wednesday. Cataract surgery scheduled early July. Live in Canada so surgery and monofocal lens covered by our healthcare system. Am ok with additional expense for Symfony lens (which I am considering)
What key issues/questions should I cover with opthamologist aside from possible halo/glare should I opt with Symfony.
If I don't go with premium lens thinking I would prefer monofocals set for near vision given my line of work with computers. I currently wear glasses for distance - just starting needing a bit of help for intermediate distance. Optomestrist 2 years ago thought I should get used to wearing progressives although I take my glasses off for reading.
Thinking it would be easier for me to adapt to what I have now and wear glasses for distance.
Would appreciate for those who've already had cataract surgery to weigh in with your thoughts .
Thanks - I am grateful for your feedback. Reading these forums has really helped me come to grips with realistic expectations and outcomes. Knowing there isn't an ideal lens out there - trying to decide what I would value more.

Thank you for this question which is of great interest to me. I also do a lot of handcraft as well as reading and I've been used to glasses for distance since a child. I ditch the glasses for close work, and dread losing my good close sight. Although my optician has not yet referred me for surgery, I already have great difficulty with glare in strong sunlight or with headlights at night and I will only drive short distances on cloudy days, so the question of glare and halo has put me off the idea of having lenses like Symfony. And many thanks to all who have answered from their own experience. My optician will not see me for another year, and I understand that there is an 18 week waiting list even before seeing a specialist once I've been referred. So I will have to put up with this for another couple of years at least, but I am almost convinced that monofocal lenses set to close and middle distances (both eyes have cataracts) will be my ultimate choice.

Thanks Cora. I am goi g to ask about setting monofocal lenses for near and intermediate as I would prefer that if Symfony lenses aren't an option for me. I don't recall anyone on these forums opting for that except in combo with mini monovision whic I don't think my eyes would get used to. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has had monofocals set for near vs distance.

I'm sure people will share their info with you. I don't think I have anything that would be helpful. Just wanted to wish you a successful surgery!

I am just so happy that my cataracts are no more and my myopic sight i have had since childhood is no longer an issue giving me a new found freedom without glasses. Would i have rather had near sight or intermediate only?..who knows..except i would have needed glasses n order to see anything beyond arms length it seems had i done so. To be able to look beyond the window ...to enjoy the views as i am out and about without needing glasses especially in hot weather is rewarding in itself. I can watch tv..look out of the window..drive...all of those things without needing glasses. So using glasses for reallyclose up work is well worthwhile and only that when i feelthe need to.is
amazing. Good luck!
