Interesting read on leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LV), tests and treatments

hello everyone, I want to share a recent article I found interesting and quite understandable: http://www.mdedge.com/ccjm/dsm/11711/rheumatology/leukocytoclastic-vasculitis

It helped me clartify that I had done all the tests required and that the diagnosis was correct. It also helped me understand available longterm treatments. And in which category of treatment I currently am (depending on the severeness of the vasculitis and the resistence to treatments.)

Cat. 1: colchicine, dapsone, hydroxychloroquine, pentoxifylline.

Cat. 2: immunosuppressive like azathioprine, methotrexate, mycophenolate mofetil (I recall my rheumatologist said the latter is not compatible with pregnancy), leflunomide

Cat. 3 (not compatible with pregnancy): cyclophosphamide, rituximab.

In germany where I live we also get ciclosporin in the Cat. 2. It is however not listed in the article. As for the rituximab (biologic agent) it has only been allowed to treat LV this year in Europe. We do not have much experience and feedback in that field.

Diagnosis is only by Biopsy, and should be done withing 48 hours of the new lesion

That is correct. The hospital carried out a skin biopsy on two of fresh lesions. This is how I was diagnosed too.
