Intermittent Catheter Trauma?

Has anyone on here had a laceration or abrasion from intermittent self-catheterization? I started cathing on occasion about a year ago to deal with my shy bladder...otherwise I don't have bladder problems. A couple months ago I started getting symptoms and they haven't gone away. I saw doctor and urologist, CT scan showed no problems, but still no cystoscopy, he says we can scope if I want but hopes it'll get better on its own, because scope is not much fun.

I'm kind of amazed it's taking this long to heal and wondering if this is normal. I don't even remember feeling any more pain than usual from cath, and then a few days later I started to get these bad symptoms. I think it did start with a UTI as I got a fever and tested positive on bacteria for Staph (from not properly sterilizing) but UTI was treated early on...etc., though there is some debate about that (urologist thinks maybe it wasn't UTI at all, just this laceration or something)... it's been a real pain and frustration, bladder won't drain properly and pain comes and goes (I am reluctant to cath at all but do when I have to, usually 1-2 times per day). I use a smaller catheter, coude tip, 12FR red rubber...that's the only kind I could make work for me and I tried a couple others....but it's hard to even get that in there when this is going on because it seems to make my urethra shrink, I guess due to inflammation... I can also get a 14FR in there normally but that's like impossible with this inflammation.

Urologist hasn't shed much light on it so I thought I'd see if I could talk to anyone who has had this happen. Pain is pretty specific to one spot on the left side and sometimes kind of creeps down the leg...can also spread to penis and testes etc.. I'm wondering if I took catheter out too fast because for a while I was removing them quickly...see I neer had anyone show me how to use them, just had to read online and figure it out for myself...I think that once I went for a jog it must've tore something and made it much worse...the pyridium stuff helps but I try not to use it so I can get a sense for how the pain is doing, and make sure it's not getting too bad...any feedback appreciated, thanks.

Is there bleeding at all ? You probably have an injury that could not heal due to repeated cathing. How much urine are you retaining ? Hank
