Internal hemorrhoids? Help!

Hi all - A bit of background first. Just over a year ago, while training for a half marathon, out of nowhere, I started experiencing discomfort in the anal area. Sometimes it was itchy; other times it felt like a full feeling; other times just sore or bothersome. I don’t think it had anything to do with running, just a coincidence. It has made life far less enjoyable, put it that way. I was even on antidepressants for awhile.. An utterly miserable year.

After seeing a number of specialists, including dermatologists, who prescribed me all sorts of steroid creams and ointments, none of which worked, I saw a colorectal surgeon who diagnosed me as having grade 2 internal haemorrhoids with an element of prolapse. A colonoscopy Confirmed the diagnosis. The same surgeon two days ago gave me sclerotherapy injections in a bid to reduce the symptoms or get rid of the blasted things altogether.

So far, albeit only two days after the injections, I am pretty much in the same place as I was. Sore. Itching. Generally miserable. My question is, do you guys think that all of my symptoms can be explained by the internal haemorrhoids or am I barking up the wrong tree. I’m really hoping that this is haemorrhoids, even though they’re an absolute pain in the bum, because at least I then know what I’m dealing with, and hopefully the surgeon will be able to find something that gives me some resolution. Surely it can’t be a coincidence that I am experiencing all the symptoms and just happened to have grade 2 internal haemorrhoids. Can it?

Thoughts, gratefully received. Please, though, bear in mind my fragile, mental state, and try not to be too negative. Good news, stories, particularly welcome. Thanks everyone
