Internal stitch sticking out of scar!

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi all, I am 3 weeks post LTHR and have discovered about 2mm of soft white thread sticking out of my scar. Has anyone had anything like this? I'm a bit worried about infection if anything travels down the thread and infects my leg/hip. The scar itself looks realy clean and good.

Micheal, I had the same thing but mine was like fishing wire....it just kinda dropped off at some point (I didn't notice when), probably when changing clothes.

Luckily no infection for me and I'm l0 months post op and anxiously waiting for my other hip to be done!

Hi Mike ... I would call and ask ... they scare the bejezus out of you with this infection thing ...  can't be bad though if scar is clean and good ...

    Hi Mike,

I had the same thing. Finally came off when healed inside - coincidently on the day I was seeing my consultant (at 7 weeks) - asked him about it and he said it often happens - nearly always at the end of the wound where the internal stiches have been knotted. I would agree with Renee though- ring and check to put your mind at rest.

I had the same thing but silly me couldn't keep my fingers off it and ended up with a little hole. Called hospital was ticked off like a naughty girl but it was fine they just put some antiseptic kind of cream on

    Hi

i had two little plastic knots each end of scar which kept getting caught in clothes. As it was past the 14days when stitches can come out I snipped them both and gently pulled out the plastic bits. Everything was fine. I think if I had left them in they would have caused an infection.
