Internal Vibration, Head Tingling, and Poor Circulation in Extremities During C-Section Recovery

Hello, I would like to ask about my unusual symptoms.

I am a 31-year old mother of two. My first child is now 7, and my newborn is over 2 months old. I delivered both via C-Section—the first was an emergency and the second planned.

In my first surgery, my doctor found a benign cyst on my left ovary, which resulted to the removal of the ovary. For the second, I was diagnosed with Prehypertension before the pregnancy and Gestational Diabetes (GDM) during. It was a complicated pregnancy—I was always bleeding—and had to be on bedrest for about 7 months. 5 days postpartum, I was rushed to the hospital due to Postpartum Pre-Eclampsia (PPE) and was treated with Magnesium Sulfate. I did not think of keeping a daily journal, but I have a list of symptoms I had during the first couple weeks of my ordeal:

  1. Lightheaded and feeling off-balance
  2. Motion sickness when lying down, swaying when sitting down
  3. Headache or eye strain
  4. Tingling sensation in head
  5. Tinnitus (ringing and swooshing sounds, sometimes pressure in the ear)
  6. Light sensitivity
  7. Confusion and being forgetful
  8. Cold feet/hands (or general feeling of being cold) from time to time
  9. Cannot tolerate (or more sensitive to) low/cold temperature
  10. Lower abdominal pain (not very often)
  11. Stomach & chest gas pain, sometimes accompanied by shoulder and arm pain
  12. Pain in left hip down to leg (not constant)
  13. Pain or numbness and sometimes pins and needles in hand and fingers/joints (not constant)

Most of these symptoms seemed to have been a reaction to the medication prescribed to me or from the post-surgery fatigue. I was prescribed Amlodipine (10mg, 5mg) for my blood pressure maintenance; Co-Amoxiclav for 7 days; Sorbifer Durules twice a day for 2 weeks and once a day for the next 2 and a half months due to low hemoglobin; Calcium Lactate and my Prenatal Vitamins once a day for 3 months. The only medication I do not religiously take is the Calcium Lactate because I thought it was making me sick every time I take it.

It has been 10 weeks since my C-Section, and I’ve completely weaned off the BP medication (Amlodipine 10, 5mg) for about 5-6 weeks now. They say I am clear of PPE past 6 weeks, and luckily, I have had no spikes since. However, from my 120/130-80 normal before pregnancy, my blood pressure reading has been constantly at 100-115/60-70 and my pulse rate sometimes drops to 60 even though I am not athletic. (Is this a new normal, and is this even safe?)

I now have none of the symptoms I’ve mentioned, except for the joint pains, which are still pretty intense for me until today, and the occasional tingling sensations. In addition to it though, I am now experiencing a numbing sensation and a lot of sweating in my extremities along with internal vibrations/tremors throughout my body. The vibration in my leg is especially worse when I sit cross-legged or when I lie down at night, it feels as if a phone was vibrating underneath. The tingling in my back is more intense when I sit without back support while holding my baby. The pain in my fingers and the clammy hands happen when I hold a mobile phone for a long period. Lastly, the joint pains are extreme after showers or after washing my hands.

I have been to my OBGYN and apart from the suspected growth of endocervical polyp, she says nothing seems to be wrong with my recovery. It all feels like a nerve problem that may have progressed due to me having GDM, and I’m also afraid I may have developed heart problems from my complicated pregnancy, but I’m constantly told it must be anxiety.

My intention is to get an executive check-up (does not include tests for nerve damage) done since I am clueless as to where the problem is coming from. But with the pandemic, my city is on partial lockdown and I am not allowed in hospitals or clinics unless it's for an emergency or for existing appointments. Meantime, I would like to ask for a little help if maybe you could provide me with some leads, like what could possibly be the underlying causes and/or which specialists to see and which tests should I ask for should it be brushed off again as just my anxiety. I honestly have no idea what could be wrong with me and I’m desperate to know if it’s all going to go away or if it could be treated even. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Bugger. That is list and half.

Firstly relax. Your symptons could mean any thing. Your hormones all over the place, your body has gone through a huge trauma and you are not as young as you used to be.

It always take time after a birth to find your balance and it will not be the same as before. Some of the things will sort themselves and maybe not. The human female body is a severely complex thing. You need to speak to someone medical who can sort out the changes from the problems. You sound so anxious it could be making everything bigger and out of proportion. Go and seek proper advice. Allow yourself to have aches and pains babies take alot from you. Mine buggered my calcium levels and ruined my teeth and I never lost stretch mark's and that is when I started to notice the aches which turned out to be arthritus and eventually Reynards as well. I also started having allergies. Your body is changing it will take time for everything to develop and sort itself.

Get some good multi vitamins take a good iron tonic - Floradix is very good. eat well. Rest where possible and stop worrying. Get proper medical advice and only worry when you know what the problem is otherwise it is a waste of time and energy. Life always goes on but changes all the way. Go seek advice and deal with your anxiety. Take care and be safe.
