I am also using Oratane. Im on day 24 of my treatment with another 130 days to go. I am on 60mgs a day. At first the side effects werent that bad. But as time went by my nose and forehead started peeling. And I just couldnt handle having these pieces of skin all over that I started picking them off. Worst idea ever!!! I really hope all this is worth it. I live in africa. So the heat here absolutely scorches your skin to a crisp! Ive become withdrawn and depressed about the condition of my dry, red, flaky skin. I cant dare put make up on because it just hurts too much. My lips have split open on both sides. So it hurts to even talk. I really hope all these side effects will subside soon. I dont know if I would be able to do another 130days of this.

Yes it's normal, the side affects will get worse sorry to say before anything gets better! But it will be worth it! I promise!

    Hi,

I am male in 30's. I have nodular cystic acne with pick scarring. Recently my acne has become worse. GP tried with lymcycline for two months. There was no improvement. I was referred to the Dermatologist. Dermatologist completed blood investigation to see my overall health. Now doctor prescribed roaccutane 30mg. Hopefully, this medicine would cure my acne after suffering for one and half decade.

I have purchased the CCetaphil cleanser and moisturiser.

Could you please suggest to protect the skin from the side affects.

    Lib balm

    Sunscreen

    Bodywash

    Shampoo

    Could someone suggest

Hi Swengr, you will not be sorry for starting Roaccutane.

      Lip balm - Blistex DCT!!!

Sunscreen - Any Moisture Rich minimum 30 SPF! This is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to avoid any further damage to the now very sensitive skin. Try E45 SPF 30+ sunscreen.

Bodywash : Can I be honest? I found that using Dermex for very dry skin, and then using an in shower moisturiser from Nivea was the absolute best thing to use. I suffered heavily from cracked skin all over my body and staryed developing eczema on my arms and legs. And using E45 helped with this. Again, dont ever skimp on the sunscreen!!!

Shampoo - Marc Anthony Macadamia oil Shampoo and Conditioner. You will never want to use anything else ever again!

Note: drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated from the inside! And dont drink alcohol! It dries the body out even more!

      Really hope this helps. 😊

Oh, and E45 should be used on the body! NOT ON THE FACE! Rather use Eucerin AQUAporin Active for your face and use this 3 times daily. Its got less oil than conventional face moisturisers and has minerals to keep skin healthy and happy 😊

Hey guys im back smile how's everyone doing? My acne has come back well and truly and I am seeing the dermatologist on the 26th of this month so hoping to go back on roaccutane. I've already had all my bloods done ready for it smile just need my deem to say YES! Not sure if it's because I was only on 20mg the first time round but now that I know what it's like to have clear skin, I can't wait to go back on roaccutane! Reading through this post after over a year brings it all back. Hope everyone is ok x

Hey! hope youre good. im new to the discussion. Ive been on roaccutane for 3 months now. I just wanted to ask how long was your course of roaccutane? and i was told the dosage was to do with your body weight? So it doesnt matter if you take 20mg or 60mg it just changes the length of your course.

      Hope your appointment goes well!

Hi Adam. TBH I have forgot it was that long ago haha think it was 5/6 months! How's your skin any improvement yet? I am at the Hosp in 2 days so fingers crossed I'm back on them tabs!! When I last seen the derm 4 weeks ago he was shocked that I was on 20mg he said I should have been on a higher dosage because apparently the lower the dosage, the easier it is for the acne to come back because the strength isn't consistent for future wise if that makes sense. Hope you're good.

ahah, its easy to lose track of time! My skin has improved a lot yes! I used to have really bad redness and swelling on my nose. And its calmed down a lot... still have redness but its so much better now. I've also stopped breaking out which is great. I really hope it stays that way. But i got an infection on my face so i had to lower my dose from 40mg to 20mg. So hoping it clears then i can go back up to 40mg.

      Yeah that does make sense.

btw which moisturiser did you use? I currently just use Aveeno, it seems okay. but my face is still so dry

have you started to break out a lot since your 1st round?

Sorry I didn't answer your last question.... I came off roaccutane about 18 months ago and only started breaking out about 4 month ago so it did work for a while but due to low dosage it's come back! Grrrr

I used cetaphil moisturising cream for the face. It's amazing stuff. Aveeno is good for the body but wouldn't recommend for the face.

    Hi all,

been reading this post after coming on looking for some reasurence for my son.. he is 14 and has been on 20mg of roaccutane, however he has been getting nose bleeds 2/3 times a day,  he also had awful break outs of acne around his mouth along with the severe redness and dry skin and terrible chapped lips.    it his knocking him hard,  and took a blow when the derm reduced his medication to 20mg every other day due to the nose bleeds.

he has been 4 weeks on the treatment now and the breakout around his mouth just doesnt seem to be getting better

at the moment he uses aveno on his face and nivia lip balm on his lips.  are there any recomendations as the breakout around his mouth is just awful and willing to try and paying anything to boost his confidence... i am just really worried that they are going to stop his treatment altogether which was devistate him and his acne has really effected him.

any advice would be greatly recieved

      Hi

Just been reading your post how's your son doing? My son is 16 and just started taking this drug!

Hi, he is doing amazing.  He has been on 20mg every other day for 4 months and I would say the last months his skins looks amazing, no large breakouts, just the odd spot. He has scaring from previous outbreaks but the hospital have assured us that after he treatment he will begin another treatment of gel to help with scaring.

When he first started it was horrific, it got so much worse before getting better and he dry lips are still an issue. We have lips balms everywhere.how is your son doing on it

Thank you so much for coming back.

He's just starting his second week. His skin is getting worse but  that's expected and seems to be suffering with joint pain.  He is mousuring all the time and wearing balm in readiness.

My biggest fear is we go away next week to Spain and don't think it's recommend they go in the sun. His dermatologist suggested he come off it for 2 weeks but he won't. He has suffered so bad with his skin he thinks by stopping it would put him back to week 1! Which I understand.

Breaks my heart watching them go through it.

Any product recommendation have I would love to hear about.

Glad your son is coming out the other side now

Same here my son has struggled since he was 11 years old and it knocks their confidence so much.

I think I have replied to your comment about going abroad, can't stress enough a good high factor suncream.

On a daily basis my son uses Eucerin Tonner, cream and lip balm.  It's not cheap but worth every single penny. Especially the lip balm. This was recommended on another forum.

The first 2 months on the treatment was horrific, my son didn't go out the door, but honestly it does get better. Just be patient
