Hi has anyone been treated with intratympanic steroid injection. If so, how successful was it and did you need more than one treatment? Thanks in advance.

I've had several intratympanic steroid injections. Initially 12 weeks apart and then 4 weeks apart. The increase in frequency was a result of my MD symptoms returning relatively soon after the injections.

I've since decided not to resume the intratympanic steroid injections since they had, for me, limited effectiveness.

Hi Sue. I had 5 steriod injections last year at this time spaced 1 month apart. After the 3rd one I started feeling an improvement. Two months after the last one my symptoms returned. My consultant the decided on Gentamicin injections to see if they worked. After the 1st one I was really I'll so needed a top up I had this last week. I still feel really spaced out but my consultant says this she settle in a few weeks. Hopefully the steriod injections work for you.

I've had one injection....did not help much.  I think these injections need to be done multiple times initially and then as needed in the future.

If your vertigo is frequent and intense....and you are still on a very restricted salt, caffeine diet....and you have tried diuretics to pull fluid from inner ear, and you have tried Betahistine unsuccessfully, then GENTAMICIN antibiotic injections may be worthwhile.  There is a lot of info on this forum about both type injections.  It would be informative for you to review them prior to seeing your ENT again.   If you need more info about gentamicin injections let me know and I'll send a private message to you.  Good luck Sue

Thank you Tanney. I've been taking Betahistine and Bendroflumathiazide for 3 years and had been fine up until 2 months ago when I had a flare, which is still going on, the worse things have been since diagnosis. Saw ENT surgeon last week and was offered the injection. Will have have a look round the forum for more information. Thanks again Tanney.

One more thought, Sue.  Since your latest flairup happened in September you might have triggered it from allergies.  Have you ever been tested for allergies?  You might want to try this....

    1.  buy an over the counter nasal flush and squirt it into your nasal passages twice/day.

    2.  After each flush spray a good antihistamine or steroid spray (like Flonase) into each nasal passage.  See if this makes a difference.

Many MD flairups start with allergy problems.

Never been allergy tested as never had an allergic reaction to anything. However this past 6 months or so I've noticed that I have been allergy type symptoms ( itchy, runny eyes and nose). It may be worth looking into it. I have taken antihistamines when this has occurred, helped with my eyes and nose, but didn't notice any difference with my MD. Thank you again Tanney
