Intrauterine Device (the Coil)

Hello the majority of comments on this site are so negative!!!! However the majority of people on this site have had the Mirena IUD which is a hormonal IUD. Adding extra hormones to your bady is bound to mess you up which is why I couldnt even consider it. I suffer from extremely terrible mood swings (how my partner is still here I dont know), have always suffered with mild acne and am just neurotic at the best of times!

I had the Nova IUD (non-hormonal coil) fitted 14months ago and it has just been the best thing ever. Well, it would have been much better if they had a decent mens contraception. After having 2 children in 12months I think I should of had a day off. :D

Anyway, there is no way I could of had the pill, injection or any other hormones so I opted for the coil. I must admit I was absoloutely terrified. Sitting in the waiting room watching all the other women come out and checking to see if they were walking properly!! smile When my turn came there was absoloutely no pain at all having it fitted. Though I did have the numbing cream. When I got home I had bad period like cramps which went away after taking painkillers. I had a bit of bleeding but nothing major. The only downside was my periods were more painful, heavier and longer but nothing too extreme that I couldnt put up with. However after a year, they are more or less back to normal. Where I had my period for 5days I now have one for 7days. But its worth it for 5years worry free its worth it.

So its been 14months now and I absoloutely recommend it. Its great. I will probably be scared when the time comes to have it removed but its just the fear of the unknown.

Hope I can just reassure some people.

Thanks for reading.

I had the copper coil in for over 7 years and I thought it was fantastic and had it removed when I had surgery and the nice gyno replaced it with the Mirena which has given me nothing but trouble.

I am willing to go back to the non copper and have preiods any day than have none and invading hormones :x

    Hey

Ive just had my Copper IUD fitted. Its a TT380 slimline last 10 years (im assured its the topnotch when it comes to coils) had it fitted yesterday and am feeling slightly funny sensations in my lower abdomen im sure its just my body letting me no ' theres something in here' but wondered if anyone else has this? Its not particularly painfull or uncomfortable just 'funny'.

Any info would be greatly received??

    Thanks!
