Hi everyone,
I am currently experiencing this.
I strained a lot about 2 months ago as I was usually putting my fingers inside to remove the blocked stool. So I decided I did not want to do that and strained and strained.
I caused a chronic fissure to bust open, a thrombosed hemorrhoid and also an internal fissure (diagnosed by flexible sigmoidoscopy).
However now am experiecing different things and I need your help for diagnosis before contacting the gastroenterologist again.
I am not constipated - I go twice a day and sometimes 3 times a day but my stool varies from hard to soft.
Started taking Movicol but causing me a lot of rectal pressure pushing out for nothing when there is nothing in there to push and sensation of inflammation in rectum. So now I stopped taking them.
The problem is that now I have to insert the cream/gel in rectum to repair this fissure but whenver I do there is stool in there which 1) I don't feel 2) varies from dry to soft 3) have to remove by hand.
I am also experiencing left side rectal pain sort of like a pinched nerve. Been to see my neurologist and without checking me up she said it's pudendal nerve.
I am also getting pain sitting down on my left sit bone.
At the moment I am very very anxious about all of this and maybe I am overdoing things out but I think that I have an internal rectal intussusception of some sort as when I insert my finger at times to put cream inside there, it's like I hit a wall and my finger won't go in any further.
I have increased by fluid intake. Eating more veggies. Don't know if I should go gluten free for a while also.
Please would appreciate your comments.

Hello Claire
How are you now, did they decide what was wrong with you.
I have put this post in reply to Anns on here, I had a colonoscopy on 6 Feb 17 and they found something that seems to be rare and I am a bit worried about it, although they did put mild on my report. I have yet to go back to the hospital doctors after colonoscopy they have not sent to see me yet.
here is what I put on here to Ann,
Hello Ann
Thanks for keeping in contact its good if we can keep in contact others too, get some info into this, what the doctors do to investigate and treat.
When you google intusssusception it seems rare amount adults, I googled and found this "
?
only two to three adults out of every 1,000,000 are diagnosed with intussusception each year." is this the same sort of figure that you found?
Most say surgery for adults, but in children they dont usually need surgery, they use enemas treatment.
Googled and found this "In general, enemas are less successful in adults than in children, and surgical treatment should not be delayed."
but also found that sometimes surgery not needed for adults. "The treatment of intussusception may or may not require surgery. In some cases, the intestinal obstruction can be reversed with an enema. The enema carries a risk of intestinal rupture and cannot be done if the bowel has already perforated. The procedure also requires the availability of a surgeon, in case the patient's bowel ruptures or the intussusception cannot be reduced."
so not sure what if any treatment will be needed.
not sure if this intussusception can happen in different places of your bowel or just happen in one?
I had my colonoscopy on 6th Feb and yet to go back. I notice you say that the intussusception after a proctogram, did it not show up during the colonoscopy?
Not sure difference in proctogram would have to google only had a barium X-ray before this colonoscopy and they said the barium X-ray was ok. They tried a colonoscopy on me in 2014 but could not get past the first sigmoid colon bend. Then the barium X-ray and then few years later said that they would like to do the colonoscopy again as this showed up more things?
The colonoscopy Report I was given after the procedure on 6 Feb 17 said
Perianal lesions: 3 haemorrhoids (2nd degree) and skin tag within
Diagnoses
Haemorrhoids and mild degree of rectoanal intussuseprion.
?
Is yours a rectronal intussuseprion, can anone tell me what part of the bowel this rectonanal is? or is mild ok in this, will I need treatment?
Nice to keep in contact, not sure about this intussuseprion and how it will affect me long term.
Thanks
Michele ?

Then went to the general surgery at the hosp again, two years now, but had been on their books all that time and they said I should have other colonoscopy, Date of procedure 6 Feb 17. The barium xray did not show the same things they said at the general surgery hosp app.
This time the report said
REPORT Date of procedure 6 Feb 17.
The patient gave consent for this procedure to be carried out. Bowel preparation was two sachets of Picolax was poor. A digital rectal examination was performed. The colonoscope was inserted via the anus to the caecum, which was identified positively by the ileocecal value, the appendicular orifice, transillumination and the tri-radiate caecal fold. The scope was retroflexed in the rectum.
Perianal lesions: 3 haemorrhoids (2nd degree) and skin ag within
Diagnoses
Haemorrhoids and mild degree of rectoanal intussuseprion.
I have underactive thyroid since 2002, take Levothyroxine sodium 100mg tablets Take 180mg telfast/Fexofenadine 180mg tablets. Peppermint oil 0.2ml gastro-resistant modified-release capsules, as they tell me I have IBS, well told me this for years. and take sachets, Macrogol compound oral powder sachets NPF, to help go to the toilet, but dont take this every day, should I take this every day?
Today I went for an eye app, at the Hosp, and they said that they think my eye swelling is related to Thyroid eye disease as one of my blood test had very high levels of thyroid antibodies.
So what causes the bowel problem above as they say its rare in adults and if mild do I need to worry about it?
I do get very bad tummies, and my bowles have not been right for years, but thought stress as left my husband three years ago and going through a long divorce and struggle to earn enough and keep my son and I going. They have put it down to IBS but maybe now its not IBS or maybe IBS and this Intussusception?
They have not sent for me again at the hospital but the colonoscopy report said Awaiting pathlogy results.
Return to the GI surggeon and review will be in 3 months. Date of procedure 6 Feb 17.
Can anyone comment please help?

Hi I have recently been diagnosed with intussusception after a proctogram. I also have diverticulosis (diagnosed after colonoscopy) and a rectocele. I haven't really been told much about any of these yet but I have to go for a scan next week and then will see the consultant the week after.
I have to admit that I am really anxious about it all and as I also have ibs it is making everything worse with the stress.

Yes mine is anorectal intussussuption. It was found by proctogram. They are not usually noticed with colonoscopy. A proctogram...They put a big tube of paste in your rectum and then you sit on a commode and pass it back out while it is being xrayed to see if there are any problems with it passing out.
I am having an xray, presumably to see if there are any further intussussuptions any higher up as there was one point where I found the colonoscopy very painful (even though I had sedation) and they want to see why I was in so much pain there as it didn't show with the colonoscopy.

Mine is in my rectum which is the lowest part and apparantly the best place to have it. Any higher up are more complicated. I am hoping the scan doesn't find any more. Rectal intussusception is more common in woman who have had difficult child births.

Yes hope you dont have anything other areas affected.
Interesting re child birth and lower rectal intussusception. All my children have got stuck and pulled out of me. So maybe due to this then.

Ann I too have been diagnosed with a stage 4 Rectocele and and intussusception after a procrogram back in October. I have been given barely any information about the Rectocele and I only found out I had the intussusception yesterday at a drs appointment when my dr read out the hospital letter with the diagnosis. So as you can imagine I'm pretty stressed today! Have you managed to get any information from anyone I am absolutely stuck as to what is going on as my specialist treats me like a child because I am apparently too young for this to happen to. I'm 27, never had kids but chronic constipation has caused the prolapse due to childhood neglect.
I have started biofeedback for incontinence due to bladder damage but I've been told nothing about intussusception have you found out anything more than I have? Feel totally lost right now

Hi. I'm also 27. Was diagnosed with intussusception in about 2013. I was going through tests from around 2010/2011 can't remember now. I had aweful symptoms. Never feeling empty. Having to manually help bowl movement. Pain from bloating etc. I eventually had biofeed back and that helped. I stopped worrying about if I had been to the loo or not. I use supository if I get too uncomfortable. I stopped using laxatives as they were creating more issues I felt.
Now I'm pregnant and constipation is becoming an issue but I have to make sure I don't strain so if I get frustrated I use the supository which take about 20 mins and means it's easier to have at least part of a bowl movement which gives some relief.
I was told it's very uncommon in younger adults so not very well understood.
