Iron component levels.

I asked a question on here a week ago but no answers. i thought maybe i would try again. My symptoms of low iron have not gone away even though my blood tests look normal. i have pins and needles ( tingling) and im extremely cold all of the time, i live in Australia, and its anything but cold here at the moment ? Also very headachy. I feel, just like i did when my ferrritin was extremely low and i needed an infusion, after bowel surgery. i know i keep, asking this, but could my blood tests be looking normal but could i still be having iron problems?

How long has it been since ur last labs were drawn??? I'm curious to see what ur hemoglobin is & ur iron levels are.

Another thing u maybe dealing with is pinched nerves in ur neck, which cause tingling n pins/needles along with lots of headaches. You might want to see neurologist for that.

Thanks for the reply. Last tests were done last month. Haemoglobin 129. Iron 15.8. Very interestingly, my doc sent me for mri of neck because of painful left arm. Sure enough left sided bulging disc. He thought that could cause symptoms but physio said she thought that would only cause upper body symptoms. Doc still thinks she's wron, and that it could cause leg tingling etc.. But would that cause the extreme cold feelings i have? It possibly could, im not sure about these things. He is sending me to a nerve specialist but that will take ages. Thanks so much for reply.

it could if its traveling to sciatic nerve in lower back on both sides then running down to feet. I deal with this all time!!!

    GOOD LUCK

Thanks Diesel dun. I need to hear this because the leg stuff is driving me mad. Bad arm pain today . Doc said last week thats definitely from the neck. The cold feelings are strange, but i guess that coukd be a nerve thing too. Thank you for your reply.

Pins and needles, feelings of cold and heat can all be nerve related. Its unlikely that a bulging disc in your neck would cause sciatic problems, unless you have a bulging disc at the l1/l5 level also. The neck nerves go down both arms. However if the disc is prolapsing inwards, it could impinge on the spinal cord, in that case it could affect the nerves right down to your feet.

It does sound more like nerve pain than iron deficiency, though it could also be a lack of B12, which could cause all of your symptoms. Its very vague. The neurologist will probably do a nerve conduction test to see if anything definitive is thrown up. Hope you dont have to wait too long. In the meantime, any problems with bowels or bladder, dont wait, go to a and e or ring your gp, asap.

Thank you Laura. Yes its all very puzzling. Especially after all the bowel surgery last year.

And also puzzling my doctor thinks the disc could be causing my leg tingling from what he read on report. Very confused here.
