Iron Defiency (Feet pain + weird eyesight and tiredness)

So I had a miscarriage 6 weeks ago and I have had no end of health issues since. It doesn't help that I suffer a lot from Health Anxiety.

A few days after the MC I had bad Vertigo for a week.

Then around 3 weeks ago I started getting pains in my feet as if I had walked for miles when I haven't walked at all. Of course my anxiety has now got worse and worse thinking I have MS or something seriously wrong with me and now my symptoms are;

  1. Cramps/sharp shooting pains/ cold pains /weakness/ some tingling and a small amount of numbness- in my hands, legs, feet and arms
  2. Weird eyesight issues - seeing more aftermages or dark spots out of the corner of my eye. A floater that wont go out of one eye.
  3. My tongue feels weird after eating, like sore and inflamed
  4. Tiredness even when I sleep really well at night

I saw my doctor and he wasnt concerned about MS at all. He believed it to be a vitamin deficiency. He did a blood test and my iron levels are low (I wasn't given the number) but he prescribed me Iron supplements. B12 he said was okay. They didn't check my Vitamin D because my calcium levels were good.

I'm seeing an Optician on Saturday but I cant stop worrying something is seriously wrong with me and my anxiety makes it so much worse.

Dont worry Rachel. It is all iron related. It does all of that . Your body relies on iron for everything. I had all of that after i had a miscarriage many years ago, and after births of my children. I still have it after bowel surgery. I am so sorry for your loss. That is making your anxiety worse probably, as your hormones are all over the place. It's a pity you couldn't have an iron infusion , that works quicker. You'll feel better soon, don't worry. Here if you need to chat.

      Hi Rhiannon,

it's so great to hear from someone else who's had similar issues. Just most days I feel like there is no hopeful end in sight. But it makes more logical sense that I'm anemic due to the miscarriage, rather then I have a horrible auto immune disease. I think seeing the Optician will help set my mind at ease too. And to be fair I haven't been for an eye test in years!

Here's hoping a few weeks into the iron supplements will help alleviate some of the leg pains. They are horrible at night!

So off to the Opticians I went today and after telling the (lovely and attentive) Optician all my fears + iron deficiency + miscarriage + MS fears....she checked over all my eye scans and tests in detail and guess what - my eyes are fine. I don't need glasses and she can't see anything wrong with the back of my eyes. I said to her about the afterimages too which she put down to anxiety.

So at least I know my eyes aren't bad. I'm just so fed up with my foot pains and other pains. I worry that the iron supplements will never rid me of the pain. But I know 100% my anxiety isn't helping things. Hopefully the therapy/CBT will help

So sorry to hear of your miscarriages Kim. It is so awful that women have to go through this.

It is reassuring to hear you had similar issues. How long did it take to get over them if you dont mind me asking?

This was the same as mine - a missed miscarriage. I didn't even know this was a thing until it happened to me.

Kim you have been through so much I'm so sorry for all your pain.

How long did it take you to feel better taking the iron supplements? I just hate feeling so run down in my body and trying to cope emotionally too
