Iron overload studies

Hi, my iron levels are 70 and the transferrin saturation level is 65. I am a 42 yo female who has a hysterectomy. I am positive only for one C282Y gene. My GP told me to check my iron levels again on one year and that because I don’t have two genes I can’t get haemochromotosis as it’s only a genetic order. 1. Is she wrong and 2. Do both the ferratin levels and transferrin saturation BOTH need to be high to be an alert?
Thanks for your help!

Hi Katsby your readings are not high in comparison but higher than they would like. Some with one mutation load and have symptoms others don't. Your credit on is not iron it is a measure that shows something ... a cold and infection or dental work can raise it. My guess is he is waiting to be sure. If you are uncomfortable not knowing ask for a second check in six months but go to the Haemochromatosis UK website and take a look. Everything you need is there. The more you know the better for you. Good luck.

Sorry typo , your ' ferritin' reading is not iron. Transferrin saturation is the truest reading. If you had a minimum of 15hour fast before having it. https://haemochromatosis.org/uk
I think is the link you need. X

No, your dr is not wrong and yes, it is usual for both ferritin levels and TS% to be high, the TS% being the marker for HH. You can get high ferritin from other reasons, eg. inflammation, infection, etc.
You may benefit from donating blood at your local blood bank as most without HH do. Just don't say you have high iron/ferritin or you will be sent away.
