Iron supplement question?

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hey everyone, I have a question to ask.

If one iron tablet contains 67.5 mg of elemental iron, how many can you safely take a day and how many is considered too much to the point it becomes toxic? I am about 100 pounds.

what does it say on the bottle?

if it says to take one tablet a day then TAKE ONE and ONE ONLY.

Iron is not something to mess around with. remember that you will be getting some iron in your food as well.

The first question is: Do you need it? If your Hb level is low then maybe you do - but it is also a good idea to let a doctor assess WHY it is low. And like many supplements - too much is not going to work better and can even be detrimentary to your health.

So, having asked your GP, as dambudzo says - check the recommended dosage and don't exceed it. Too much, even if not toxic, can have unpleasant effects. Many people become constipated, others develop diarrhoea
