I have IBS acid reflux and hiatus hernia, I had with the help of my Dr weened myself off ppl tablets and was doing ok then about 5weeks ago I was diagnosed with anemia and put on iron which in turn have really made the acid reflux really bad but have been told I must take them because my iron level is low I am waiting for an appointment at the gastro specialist about the anemia. Has anyone else had to deal with the same thing?and how did you cope? I am really sick to death of never feeling well, any advice would be appreciated.

Yes to hhernia and reflux and anaemia, a rotten combo. I find iron tablets aggravate the reflux. However, I switched to regularly taking Spatone. Not as much iron in it as tablets and in liquid form so less of an irritant. Tastes disgusting so I put a sachet in a small glass of orange juice daily at midday, well away from the time I take omeprazole. I did this and my iron levels have improved. You can get it from Amazon and it isn't too costly there. I do still get the reflux but the spatone not to blame. You have to address the low iron otherwise it's exhausting.

Joyce 01483, I feel sorry for anybody going through this distressing condition.
I'll be 84 Yrs old next month and never experience anything like this before.
As soon as I put something to eat in my mouth, the burning feeling would start!
I'm lucky to have an hour free! I keep a container to spit in as my mouth keeps filling up! I hope there's an end to this, I want to go out again!

Thank you for replying to me, yes acid reflux is really horrible I have had it for 30yrs and no nearer a cure to when it first started, and now I have the anemia I don't know if I am coming or going. I am 64yrs now and feel it has robbed me of my life. Is your GP arranging any tests for you? And are you on any medication? If no two both questions I think you will need to discuss things and maybe ask to be referred to a gastro specialist. Good luck to you I know how bad it can be.

Joyce how have you endured this terrible affliction for over 30 years?? I've had it for almost 4 and I can't bare it anymore. I'm looking at having Linx device out in or having Nissan fundopilation op. Why have u never considered these options?
Warm regards
Dominique

Dear Dominique, thank you for getting back to me, please believe me it's not for the want of trying, because I have IBS that's all they put everything down to being wrong with me.l am not suitable for linx because I have a haitias hernia, I did go about Stretta treatment and again I was told it's IBS but I was referred for 24hour ph test and because I couldn't complete it I was discharged, even7yrs ago when I had my gallbladder removed the consultant said to me and were is the IBS pain not gallbladder pain, so you see if you are like the Drs don't want to know. To be honest the acid reflux has got a lot worse since I have to take the iron tablets, but I have IBS acid and bile reflux and hhernia, even my own family don't believe what I go through, so its not for the want of trying it's just getting someone to believe me. Anyway I wish you good luck for your linx procedure and hope you have an end soon to the misery.

Hi Joyce
I suffer with low iron periodically and last time it was very low I had iron infusion. I can't take iron tablets because of gerd. This really helped. Can't they give you an infusion?
