Ironing !!

Very random question today. I am post thp 4 weeks on Friday. Is it safe to do ironing if I sit on a perching stool or do you think twisting movement may be dangerous regarding movement restrictions?

Just thought any job I can do will help pass the hours.😉

Are you mad!  I have told my husband that ironing and vacuum cleaning are very dangerous for at least 3 years after a hip replacement !  Only kidding!  I am sure it would be fine. Just go carefull and don't over do it.

I think it is always a good sign when we want to get back to "normal".

Morning Tracey! I hear you about finding things to do to pass the time!! My therapist said that I had to make sure I stayed straight in doing things As to not twist especially to the right. I made the mistake one day as I was getting a tshirt out of a drawer and I was not facing the drawer so I twisted to the left to open the drawer get my shirt & close the drawer, well low & behold, I felt a pain on my right buttock and the rest of day, for a couple of days!! I was scared I did something wrong!! Suffered in silence cause I didn't want my hubby to know! When my therapist came I told her what happened and she said I probably pulled a muscle nothing to worry about as I had twisted to the opposite of operated leg, had I twisted to operated leg than there could of been a problem!! So she said I had to remember to face everything I'm doing at all times. I hope this helps. Take care. And blessings to you for a speedy recovery!! Hugs, ????. LD

Thank you Linda. Very true about twisting so easy to forget and just turn etc especially as not really I'm pain to remind me. Time certainly drags. Only so much TV etc I can stomach but good got Olympics to watch for next couple of weeks.

      Take care xx

Walk some here inside. Wash dishes, try mopping floor. Pray the Rosary.....look around the house to see all I want to do and what needs to be done!!!! Take care! ????

I am a fascinated by what kind of aerobic ironing you do?

i try and avoid ironing at all costs! However I would have thought just general ironing would be fine standing or perching, providing you are not bending to get stuff out of a laundry basket.

great random question though- it made me laugh!

Marionaa aerobic the way we are at present time - the mind boggles. I am unique I'm actually enjoying ironing. My husband bless him is ironing after a fashion! Think bending to basket etc probably bit risky right now. Will have to find something else to pass time.

      Glad made you smile! !

Tracey I asked my therapist Monday about bending and she said that for most part ur body should be like an L shape when bending & sitting. Anything pass that risks you going over the hip precautions. I was curious as sometimes I want t get something out of lower cabinet or pet my dog. He's a French Mastiff but when we let him for awhile to get out of the heat I like to go and pet him and he is usually sitting. His head doesn't come up high enough so I'm careful how far to bend.

      Hi Linda.

I have a westhighland terrier and I can't reach to stroke him.broken our rules and in the morning my husband puts a foot stool by side bed so my dog can jump up for cuddles and a stroke! ! Wondering how long till can safely take him out a while I think as he pulls on lead etc.

Hi Tracey, have you tried the 'golfers stance's whereby you put operated leg behind you & lean forward then you're not breaking 90deg rule. I was worried about not being able to feed/water my dog let alone stroke him but after a few days post-op I was bending with no problems (leg out behind).

My surgeon told me that today! Said stand with legs apart and bend while putting operated leg back.

Yea. I have been bending to the floor with operated leg out behind me. Sometimes raised off the floor. All good. Just if you do it too much yr good leg gets sore. Muscles say , no more.
