Irritated labia! Help!

I've just recently been diagnosed with genital herpes and I've had two sores and they've come on and gone. I've also had an itchy, irritated, swollen vulva during this time. Although the sores are done, the irritated and unconfortable vulva (feels like a yeast infection) symptoms are still there... It's been 3 weeks, going on 4 weeks. I've been tested for everything else (yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, STDs, etc.) and everything came back negative. I'm assuming my irritated vulva is due to my genital herpes. Is this normal? Will this go away on it's own... my immune system fighting it off? Should I go see my doc (for the 3rd time) and ask for a cream? Everything online talks about outbreaks and sores/ulcers, but not really about a persisting irritated vulva. Please help! I don't know if I should be patient and wait this through or if I should be yelling for meds. I took my Valtrex after the sores were gone, but doesn't seem to have done anything (which I know is sometimes the case when you take the meds after). Any advice is appreciated.

Do you normally get a yeast infection after you take antibiotics? Brings me back to the memories of my irritation also is definitely part of the process you could break out again with this going on use a lot of cool water and keep cool water flowing on it .several times a day take the fever reducer which is Tylenol or aspirin do not wear tight clothing no stay out of the Sun keep your whole body cool and your legs apart if you know what I mean and not for the reasons people may think. If you don't have any pain killers for it trying this morn plus with pain relief they'll also know the area you apply to. It's good there's not an obvious freaked out right now but your profits are stressed. Something is happening to make it stress weather its tight clothing not being able to put cool water on it 3 times a day.

and I don't know but something is keeping it stressed

I do get yeast infection. I've started treatment with monistat just to make sure (as of yesterday). I've also started taking vitamins to boost my immune system (as of today). Hopefully this with epson salt baths will help.

Was that you that somebody was telling you to take a hot bath? I would not do that if you paid me! You're already fever is down there why would you want to be in a hot water you see what I mean?

No I've been taking cool baths with epson salt. No hot water for this girl.

Thank God for that. Are you absorbing any of that salt into your body like swelling or anything from sodium? Are you still having pain

As time passed for me this symptom lessened, in the beginning my vulva would ache for about two to three weeks, although yours seems extended it may be completely normal for your body, have you already taken your prescribed medication for your outbreak?

Yes I have taken my meds and I am done my dosage. Maybe this is my body's way of reacting.

Now the aching for me is more my signal that an outbreak is coming and once I take my medicine all the symtoms go away, plus I take some over the counter medicine for pain relief just to help subside that aching/throbbing.

Hmmmm bizarre. I've already had my outbreak. I've taking my meds so hopefully that's that. If not, back to the docs I go.

Hi Cheryl! I'm in the exact same boat! I'm now going on my third week of symptoms but only started the Valtrex three nights ago. However I turned out positive for bacterial and the yeast infection two weeks ago. Then last week I was back in the office twice because the medication for it didn't help. I think it started to help but then I missed a dose of the cream one night and the very next morning I was looking like I did on day one. So I was retested for the same thing my gyno tested me for I got those results and it still showed I had yeast. I'm not currently being treated for yeast now hopefully tomorrow I'll get something. I had to tell them to test me for herpes this past Wed and I don't have results on it yet but the doctor said after saying I didn't have herpes that after looking at my culture more it looks like I do. So I've been taking Valtrex. Tomorrow I'm going in for an ultrasound of the cervix. I do have something inside me on the upper left that is tender. He wanted to check for polyps which could cause inflammation or it could just be the herpes. My symptoms have been minimal but I'm still itchy and the inside of my vagina looks like it's on fire it's so red, it doesn't bother me but I wish my vagina would calm down and get back to normal. I'm hoping the yeast medication will get it back down. Otherwise I feel ok. I look fine on the outside. I'm only slightly red on the outside but I think that's because I'm so red on the inside. It's really annoying. I'd say go back to the gyno if you are still red maybe they can do an ultrasound for you too.
