Is amitriptyline a sleeping tablet that affect the stages of sleep? I don't want to take it if it is because I hear for a truly refreshing night's sleep one should go through all of the natural cycles of sleep-eg REM etc.

No it's not a sleeping tablet but it could make you drowsy but so do lots of other prescribed medication (and over the counter as well).

    Hi

Hi agree with what has been said. I have only taken it for two weeks as a painkiller and it has definitely made me feel drowsy. I firstly took it at bedtime but was feeling groggy in the morning but am now taking it with my evening meal and am fine in the morning.
