Is anxiety causing my constant nausea?

Hi All

I'm a 43 year old male and I've been suffering with daily nausea for about 10 weeks now. I'm booked in for an endoscopy but i'm thinking it may be anxiety related. I never feel like I will actually be sick but I often feel like i'm 'tense'. If I concentrate I can relax my abdominal muscles a little and it's almost like im always sucking in my gut and not berathing deeply enough.

I've been on amytriptyline (25mg at night) for the last month to see if it makes a difference but as yet nothing. The Dr's are unsure of the cause and as I know I have a small Hiatus hernia and GERD they have booked me in to have another endoscopy just to make sure all's well.

I do feel like this could be anxiety - not about anything inparticular but probably about feeling nauseas all of the time! viscious circle maybe?

Any help and advise would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

During a time of anxiety, I was very nauseaous. I ended up on citalopram and domperodone. The domperadone gave me almost instant relief from the nausea. My digestion had slowed way down and had so much trouble with GERD at the time. Eventually I went on something natural that helped me so much with the GERD. I took betaine HCI. It's natural from a health food store. Hope this is helpful.

I had constant nausea too when sufféing with anxiety. I found that ginger tea helped and doing mindful meditation helped with feeling anxious x

Good luck and hope things settle down soon for you xx

Follow your GP s investigation, your codition may be causing Nausea so. See how your Endoscoy goes and work it from there

Thank you all for your replies. It's comforting to hear that it may well be anxiety that's causing this but as Bob said - best to get the endoscopy done and rule out anything down that route! My GP seems to be sure this is caused by my GERD but i'm not having any acid symptoms (the meds keep that side under control).

The reason i'm leaning towards anxiety is I feel like i'm not breating deeply enough and this tension in my stomach is causing the nausea. I'm honestly not sure wat to think - I do have rare better days but these seem to be getting less frequent and I do feel like i've hit a bit of a dead end!
