Is anxiety the cause of my inability to do everyday tasks?

Basically iv been feeling constantly tired and im finding myself overthinking and thinking too hard about normal tasks which I never used to think twice about. Iv also been so depressed and I find myself having these intrusive thoughts, I feel like my brain is shrinking and is constantly straining almost like a tight band being wrapped around my head or as if its being clamped down, im also having to stop and think when im trying to complete a task because I end up overthinking. I feel like my common sense and intelligence has gone, I used be able to read people and I used to listen to everyones problems and now im doing and saying the wrong things, people are now starting to take advantage of me, im scared to even apply for a job because I feel like im getting dumber and dumber each day by getting simple tasks wrong. Iv been so forgetfull its unreal. Sleeping is also a huge problem for me as sometimes I forget to breath so I wake up in full panic and idk wat to do so I just stay up. I feel constantly tight when I breath and often get sharp pains around my body. When I burp it feels like it gets stuck n It feels like its choking me, even when I swallow, it feels like I cant do it n I panic cuz I think Im gunna choke. Im not taking any meds atm but I was prescribed fluroxitine but that gave me really bad side effects, ik it takes a while to adjust but it felt so surreal as If I left my body n so depressed, my mind still often feels vacant and as if I cant think, I used to be able to think properally and used to be able to multitask and was quick with my reactions, but now its slowed down and I cant think properally, my perception of everything has changed its not right, I need help asap, im becoming more tempremental than ever, idk wats wrong with me.

Hi Nicole you sound as though you are suffering from anxiety and depression.Thinking can be slow and laboured as a result as you are preoccupied with frightening thoughts and sensations. You haven't dumbed down you are just ill.You really should reconsider medication as they will hopefully get you to a level where you can get the most out of talking therapy.l know that the side effects are hard to deal with but they don't last long.As for your breathing the body doesn't stop breathing it needs air to survive and will continue to do so no matter what your thoughts are telling you.

Hi Nicole, I can say you are suffering from classic anxiety and depression symptoms, your common sense, intelligence etc is still there it's just your " normal" thoughts and feelings are being hijacked by your illness. Your brain in not shrinking, the tight band feeling around your head is an anxiety symptom so is tightness breathing and the pains your getting all anxiety.

If fluroxitine wasnt working or side effects too much you've got plenty other AD's you can try but you will get side effects which you will have to deal with whilst they subside and start to work.

Keep doing your usual things and if you've to stop due to overthinking then stop, alternatively acknowledge your overthinking and carry on.

All in all your suffering classic anxiety and depressive symptoms so don't suffer go and see your GP abd get the help you need.

Thank u aspinan for ur reply n I can understand when u say my thoughts are being hijacked because sometimes subconciously my mind would just stop me n say you shouldnt be doing this or u should be doing this, and I have been put on the waiting list for CBT, again thank u so much for ur reply.

When  anxiety and fear take over, the symptoms you have are very common.

Ive had every one of them.

Overthinking creates anxiety in the brain which leads to the symptoms you are getting.

As long as you have had a checkup by your doctor, now it's time to work on your anxiety and develop a new way of thinking.  This is essential!

Ive had anxiety since grade school and it all accumulated over the years with negative thoughts, fears, etc.

Finally realized how miserable I have been for decades.  As a kid I had no clue.

If you can get a book called Mindfulness, it would be well worth reading!  It shows you how to manage your anxiety and regain your peace of mind.  White cover book with a ball of tangled string on the cover.

What I do a couple times a day is listen to meditations on you tube for anxiety or depression or sleep etc.    This is a must for me because they completely calm down my mind and body and my symptoms.  They have helped me to not only manage my symptoms but change the way I think about myself, life, problems, etc

Just search for Guided Meditations for Anxiety.  A good one Is called Detachment from overthinking but so many others!!   I use earbuds and lay down to listen.

Also they have positive self affirmations which I listen to when walking or driving.

The more your subconscious hears these, the more it believes them,

Counseling helped a lot.   It really helps to vent to someone else and possibly discover some reasons for the anxiety or depression.  Highly recommend it!

The main idea is to calm down the brain

When you get a negative thought, don't get anxious.  You calmly acknowledge it, then let it dissolve away.

    Be kind to yourself

    Dont take life too seriously

    Laugh and smile

    Get exercise

    Walk in nature

    Never give up!🌸🌸🌸

Also, to calm down the breathing, search you tube for "mindful breathing exercise "

very important to learn when anxiety creeps up or negative thinking.
