Started on the HRT patch a week ago and tried testosterone years ago but made me very bloated. Just wondered what it does for you and does it make you feel better?

Will try anything now to feel normal again !

I will say that the only hormone that i actually felt did something for me was this one.

Better mood, energy, just overall well being, and definite increase in libido but to no avail as i do not have anyone in my life..  rolleyes

    Hi Lori

I'm on bhrt with testogel at 5mg per day. Just about to swap to tostran as quite a few have been pulled. The testosterone on its own isn't licensed for use in women but can be prescribed. So for me the testosterone helps with confidence, anxiety, mood and libido. Last time I tried it was really effective, this time it seems to be taking longer to kick in. Not sure how it works with a patch but you just rub it in with the gel. Gives you very hairy thighs mind you and when I accidentally rubbed in too much, the next morning I was on the doorstep shouting at my hubby like a loon smile I know you tried bhrt previously, I'm not sure if it's part of your patch now or even if it's advisable to use in addition x

      Hi sassy

Yes I will see if I can get some from my doctor .... she didn’t mention it being low but if it helps with mood and anxiety I’ll be up for trying it. As I said tried it 10 years ago but made me very bloated and want to keep my figure as I work out a lot ... maybe just a small dose will work

Sounds like a plan Lori. The specialist nurse from the menopause society advised that I could just take progesterone and estrogen but I went with my original prescription with the testosterone too. I think you need to have all 3 to get the right balance. Good luck with it, but if you're in the UK don't forget to mention to the doc that it's tostran which is available or you'll have to go back again when the pharmacy reject it. I do feel bloated tbh but it's manageable and only happens every so often xx

    HI lori,

I started on bio identical creams two and a half years ago consisting of estriol, estrodial, progesterone and testosterone. All my creams with the exception of the progesterone are applied to the labia. They are made for me by a compounding pharmacy. My testosterone I choose to use in a separate cream to get a better effect than mixing together in one cream. I have only had great results from the testosterone cream. Libido and desire has greatly increased, my weight has been more manageable along with diet and excercise. My well being is excellent, I couldn't feel better. I attribute this to the whole hormone treatment but much to the testosterone for sure. I don't have any bloating ( maybe this is caused by the testosterone made more for men than women, as with the gels ) don't have problems with hair growing in places you don't want it either. In saying this I do have my numbers checked by my doctor ( holistic) and my testosterone was started low and increased slowly. I started at 2mg and now up to 8mg but that is in an over two year period. I have been in menopause for over three years now. I will stay on my BHRT from here on out. As long as you are being monitored by a knowledgeable doc in hormone replacement, go slow and only what you need, you shouldn't have any problems being on testosterone therapy. Good Luck!

I tried BHRT for 2 weeks but didn’t do anything for me so switched to the HRT patch. I may add some testerone to the mix as I’m still not feeling well and tired ALL THE TIME . How long did it take for the BHRT to kick in? I’m so fed up of not being able to do things.

I’m so happy that you are feeling great and would love to be where you are. I’d drink bleach right now if it would lift me 🤣

      Hi jude

I use testosterone at 5mg a day applied to the inner thigh but I'm finding it quite slow to work. I feel better but still a bit low on confidence and libido. I've been taking for 3 months. How long were you taking it before it was increased to the 8mg?

      Hi Lori,

I found my BHRT to work pretty quickly especilally the hot flushes at night and being able to sleep. I would say within the first month I felt some positive changes and then it only got better from there. I do take supplements to compliment my hormone replacement and I think everything has worked together to give me the results I have seen. It alll doesn't happen overnight so 2 weeks on bio's for you probably just wasn't enough time or possible the dosage was just too low. That's where having a doc that takes regular labs like every three months at the beginning can pay off. Then they know you need more and will increase until you feel your "normal" again. I switched over to a holistic dr because my GP who was a younger female I knew was not going to be of much help. Best decision I made.

      Hi Sassy12a,

Anything I read with transdermal creams is to rub on high capillary areas of the body so they can be absorbed better into the system easier and you get the bet effect. It seems to me that the inner thigh is a fatty area of the body and maybe you are not getting enough absorbed where it needs to go. My thoughts. What many docs who have written about bio creams will recommend is applying on the labia. It is the natural route where most of our hormones are produced ( the ovaries ) the body brings them up in that area and knows where to go with them. I started with the hormone creams, including testosterone that I rubbed on the inside of my arms, back of my knees, bottoms of my feet, neck, etc but have found the vaginal route to be very effective for me.  I started testosterone two and half years ago at 2mg, after 6 months went to 4mg then after another 6 months 6mg and then 8mg. I will get labs tested in Sept and will possibly go up to 10mg depending on my numbers and how I am feeling. Each time it was increased it wasn't an immediate result. It does take time. Probably a month to really feel the change when the mg were increased.

Thanks jude that's really helpful. I'm going to sound particularly dull now, but is it on the outside or inside of the labia?

      Sassy,

I wouldn't recommend you putting the testosterone you have on your labia at all. You will have to get a testosterone cream prescribed that is made to go on your labia. Not sure what kind of testosterone you have but it probably isn't meant to be put in that area is my thought. I rub mine all over the labia area, underside, typically. By the way, applying the creams in this area really brings these tissues back to a healthy state that we seem to lose as women heading toward and into menopause. Women can also get bio identical testosterone pellets if they don't want to deal with the daily routine of rubbing creams on. Some women find this works nice too and then your only dealing with it 4 times a year instead of everyday.
