Cheers to all of you nurses who did all the 'heavy lifting' - literally and figuratively.

Hello is Chris again. 6 weeks post op now. Still don't feel able to return to nursing, don't think I could comfortable get down to empty a catheter bag / put someone's slippers on, let alone slide sheet someone up a bed!   Would appreciate information from other nurses as to how long it was till you were fit to return to  Nursing / manual handling please ?

      Hi.

I was def not ready to go back at 6wks!!

I am coming up to 11 and still dont feel ready.

I am an anticoagulant specialist nurse. Have to drive to one or two clinics every day. See apprx 60-80pts per day. Up and down from desk and swivel chairs. Leave room call pt walk back test pt then repeat.

I am only just getting to grips with my car again but the clutch is giving me problems with inner thigh n knee.

Plus surgeon said no swivel/twisting ever!!

As i do get another 3mths on pay might ask for another few weeks from gp to strengthen driving.

Cant get down to floor either so for this reason also feel not ready to go back.

(You know if u like me in nhs, as soon as they see your face it will be 100miles an hour straight away. No gentle pace n build up. So becareful and take your time).

This surgery was for my benefit not my employers so i will take the time i need.

Good luck and hippy healing to you xx
