    Hi Jackie,

I am 60 years old & live outside of Brentwood & was diagnosed July 2014. After many months of NHS appointments & going privately I had to travel outside of the area for the diagnosis. I would be interested to know whether there is the expertise at local hospitals who can provide support as that would be easier for me?  My symptons come & go but are far better than this time last year. I use Dermovate Ointment at night as prescribed & Diprobase ointment during the day. I only use Epaderm cream for washing. I have given all my 'nice' shower gels away & only use baby shampoo for washing my hair in the shower.  i am getting used to the routine but do sometimes wonder 'why me'?  I know there are worse things but i used to swim regularly & that has stopped as chlorine doesnt help at all.

Hi Anne, in November 2013 i was referred to a gynaecologist at Queens but after being messed around by a gynea that didn't give me any faith in what she was doing or saying I was transferred in October 2014 (at my request) to a gynea at Broomfield in Chelmsford. I had a biopsy in November 2014 and have my follow up apt in March. Not really sure yet whether she is going to keep me as a patient or refer me on to a dermatologist, as that seems to be the route of some people on here. I have just managed to calm everything down again after the biopsy and I'm hoping it stays that way. Where did you go privately, aren't you able to continue with the private doctor as an Nhs patient.

Hi Jackie, To cut a long story short. After a year of so of being told by GP that I had either UTI's or Thrush I was referred to Broomfield. That was a waste of time for me. Consultant suggested it was an 'age' issue & that I should use yogurt for the thrush & go to back to GP for HRT so I was discharged. Obviously I didnt improve so I went back to GP who said as I had been discharged I would have to start all over again which could be months as not an emergency (in their eyes). I decided to go to a private consultant in Brentwood who was brilliant she felt it was an auto-immune problem & referred me to a Consultant at the Royal Free.  I enquired with my surgery whether I could see this Consultant under the NHS as it was a different trust but they said it wasn't possible so I've been paying for my treatment. I would like a local support group / hospital for day to day problems.  It seems in certain areas of the country there is expertise but it seems to be lacking in Essex.
