Is anyone taking or has taken SYMPROVE for ibs?

Hello  I seem to have had ibs as far back as I can remember ( bloating pain wind constipation etc) and manage it as best I can by avoiding processed and highly flavoured foods and taking peppermint oil and aloe era. Etc etc

I read about symprove recently ( I always come late to these thingssmile

i ordered 4 bottles as I have problems with thrush/candida so thought it might help sort out the problems I have with yeast overgrowth that probably contributes to my ibs.

Im on my 3rd bottle and seem to be be pooing a lot (sorry tmi) up to 6 times a day nearly every day - I'm not sure that I can feel much improvement yet

im wondering if I should carry on with symprove or is there something else I can try?

Id welcome any help and advice as. I'm feeling a bit despondent by my ibs - it's such a blight on my life

i am so sorry to hear you have to suffer with this; i have it also and for awhile it seemed to be under control for the last 6 weeks but it came back yesterday; i was changing eating habits; drinking a whey protein vitamin drink, taking enzymes fiber and probiotic; and then i took one pill  (a new supplement  supposed to help hot flashes and menopausal symptoms-hormonal imbalance) Yesterday that flared it up.. i threw them away;  but it may.also have been because i didnt sleep at all and was very stressed; i am trying to figure all this out; have fibro too but i think bad stress does me in for ibs; it is one of the hardest things to live with; let us know if you try it  if it works for you; taking probiotics and enzymes seems to help

Hi Nell and Gloria I to have these same probs, daily a nightmare.Name it I've tried it,been this way for over 8yrs.ive put it down to hormones out of whack in a big way.went and got, natural progesterone, but now found out candida thrives on it.Back to square one yet again.this on bad days with this gives me anxiety.Never had IBS till all this began,so again think hormones upsets the bowel, due to the close nature where it all is.Wish I had the answer for us and women like us with these issues, you just hope you'll get up one morning and like magic it's all gone,Feel uncomfortable sitting, that's another problem to.just wish these hormones would give up.Who needs this ?worst time of my life, rather have periods back.Sorry your going through it too.

      Hello Marlene,

I have been on NATURAL progesterone too, for the past 6 or 7 years. I am 65. It is made from yams.

My gynecologist as well as my pharmacist and credible internet sites ALL confirm that this natural, bioidentical progesterone cream (which I apply on my wrists and inner side of elbows nightly) is cancer PROTECTIVE especially because I carry some excess weight. As we all know, estrogen is stored in fat...which I have to some degree in excess. What I have learned is that with menopause our estrogen production does not decrease as much as our progesterone production which plummets. If we have excess estrogen stored in our bodies, we need to increase the progesterone to keep them in balance. I think everyone knows that too much estrogen versus progesterone can ignite cancers of the reproductive system. This is what I have gleaned from reading about the issue and from my gynecologist and my pharmacist. (I had to get my progesterone cream from a pro-bioidentical hormone gynecologist but my own older, traditional gynecologist was in agreement although he doesn't prescribe bioidentical hormones himself).

The reason why I take it is is in order to sleep better and I do, 7 hours of deep, restorative sleep! Gone are the days of getting up in the night and cleaning my house because I couldn't sleep and feeling wrecked all day. I used to drive around groggy...and dangerous!

As far as the candida...can you put unflavoured probiotic yoghurt 'down there' and cut out white carbs instead of getting off the progesterone?

As far as the IBS with which I have suffered almost all my life...up until about 10 years ago, you can read my earlier post about magnesium.

Google any and all supplements especially prescrition drugs with all their serious side effects that you take into your system before taking them which is what I always do.

Magnesium and progesterone cream are all I take. I do not ever want to take prescription drugs. My aim is to go a more natural route for any 'aches and pains' and to be 'drug free' into my old age. Sometimes this is impossible but most of the time there is a lifestyle solution to one's ills. I wish the same for you and Nell.

    Hello Nell,

I would never tell someone to get off their medication. That's between you and your doctor. But often patients are quick to turn to medication rather than try lifestyle changes. And doctors often spurred on by sales incentives or just to satisfy a patient will write out a prescription and be done with it.

Having had IBS since age 13/14, I have a lot of experience with it...and I have conquered it....without drugs! Here is what I think:

The solution is right on your dinner plate.

You need to keep REGULAR and ....everything should be fine. When you eat constipating foods and you don't eat enough fruits and vegetables in a day and maybe don't drink enough water...your bowels block up.What you eat obviously affects what you excrete. To keep your insides working well you can do the following:

    1. Eat 6 - 10 servings of vegetables and fruits per day. (NHS recommendation is 5+ which is much lower than let's say Japan at 14+)) No more beige meals! Only delicious, jewel toned vegetables on your dinner plate....or in your morning smoothie blender.

    2. Get some exercise every day to keep things moving...whether it be walking or a sport or an exercise class.

    3. Limit or better, eliminate constipation causing foods such as white rice, cured meats which are  salty like ham, salami, hot dogs, too much meat in general, salty foods like crisps, under ripe bananas, dairy and tea until you get things under control.

    4. omit dairy products from your diet altogether if you can...or limit them and replace them with delicious almond milk.I can no longer tolerate ANY dairy except butter.

    5. Drink plenty of water. (I have a pitcher by my computer so first thing in the morning I drink down 2 full glasses).

     6. I often take 1 tsp of natural psyllium husks (as in Fybogel)  in the afternoon in a tall glass of water.

    7. If you have particularly sluggish bowels, take 2 tablets of the natural mineral magnesium citrate before bed. We are almost all deficient in this mineral because we take too much calcium and/or it's been rendered unavailable to the crops by pesticides added to our soil. (Google: Scholarly papers magnesium to read more about this incredible mineral) In the morning you will produce a foot long, soft, stool that passes in 3 seconds. And that's it, no pain, no cramping, no gas, no bloating. Everything should pass easily. You should be able to eliminate everything in one fell swoop in the morning. You will learn that you need to be on top of your bowel activity.

A poster, Barb who is still on this site, recommended drinking 1 TBSP of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water 20 - 30 minutes before a meal to help with digestion...including acid reflux which I suffer from as well as bloating and discomfort after meals. It sounds counter-intuitive to take something acidic to prevent acidity...but it works! I was living on antacid tablets (which also prevent absorption of magnesium because they are calcium based) and immediately, from the first meal preceded by apple cider vinegar, I felt wonderful! Yda I went out for a big Chinese meal with friends and I felt great afterwards where usually I feel like I swallowed a turkey whole.

If we all just drank plenty of water, filled our dinner plates with colourful veggies and moved our bodies more, AND took ACV and magnesium citrate, we would be fine. Listen to your body. Lifestyle, lifestyle, lifestyle! Treat your bowels well and they will thank you. Good luck!
